Salon du Vintage Fall 2009

Like last April and last year, I went to Le Salon du Vintage, a sort of high-end flea market dedicated to stuff from the late 60's, the 70's and the early 80's. I try not to be one of those "before, it was better" person, but I still think that there is nothing more elegant than a woman outfit from the 60's. This time the show took place in the heart of Saint Germain and it was a real success. Like always I took a zillion photos ( nearly 500!) but I selected only a few in this little Animoto. Enjoy... And have a look at this too.

  2. Oh, yes! Sixties vintage is great. Half the fun of "Mad Men" is the clothes. Great Animoto, although the orange hairy coat is a little scary.

  3. "Half the fun of "Mad Men" is the clothes." ABSOLUTELY!!!

You can make your very own Mad Men/Women right here: http://www.amctv.com/originals/madmen/madmenyourself/

The Animoto made me weak at the knees. I dare say that if that type of music was in style when I was a young lady, I'd probably have 17 children by 17 different fathers right now. No lie.

  4. Suzy. ROTFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL! You're right, 60% of the success of Mad Men is probably due to the clothes - oh and the constant smoking too!

  5. Eric, if I'm pregnant after watching that Animoto, I'm coming after you.

  6. Careful, Suzy, if you do that you'll just get pregnant again! Then what? 18 children by 18 fathers?

All I need are the blue shoes and a pack of Winstons. Fabulous.

  9. I'm with you, Petrea (only mine were menthols). Eric, you say: "Nothing more elegant than a woman's outfit from the 60s." Well, speaking as a woman who lived in Paris during the 60s, I just have to say: Either I was born too early or you were born too late! As every time you feature this—LOVE it!

  10. P.S.—Back in the '60s, I found a fabulous pair of 19th-century shoes (not unlike these) at the Marché aux Puces and had them copied (i.e., made to measure) in St. Germain. Cost at the time: 50 francs ($10) for the antique shoes, 150 francs ($30) to have the copies made to order pour moi. I don't even want to think about what this would cost today.

  12. I have some friends who would die to be able to buy from that flea market. I'd be happy just to look. :)

Very delicate, pretty and feminine shoes.

  13. Great photo and Animoto. I saw Belle de Jour at the weekend and as well as a ravishing Catherine Deneuve there were also some fabulous shoes and handbags.

I think Dorothy might be tempted to trade her ruby slipper for those.

  14. Oh gosh I've never seen Mad Men and I really must! I know I shall like it.
Pretty shoes, these ones, blue and sparkly!
Loved the Animoto Eric. mmmm the dreaming song is divine...;)
My choice are the black shoes with the fine, multiple straps over the front.

  15. The 60s is my favourite era too, fashionwise, Eric. So elegant, simple and pretty. I like 18th c. dress too though. Feminine and demure. Sigh... :)

  16. Eric, I love the song. Where can I get a copy of it...I watched the video twice to get the title/artist, but it passes too quickly for me. Thanks.

  17. Who knows where "Dorothy" would travel to if she wore THESE instead of those ruby slippers! Fantastic!

  18. Darlings, trust me, every era has its fashion disasters - even with the help of a pair of those rose tinted specs, you'd NEED to be a Mad Woman to wear THAT coat!

Lynn, oh you bitch, I saw those shoes first!

  19. LOOOOOOL Drummond!

@Misplaced Parisian. The song is Goodnight my Darlin' by Pete Surdoval.

  20. ET Suzy,
I was was of that era and believe me, spent a little time in the back seat ...........well never you mind about that. The music was fab and so were the clothes. I would wear anything today that Jackie Kennedy ( notice I don't use Onassis) wore then.

    Eric,
This photo made me weak too. And I loved your video. Yet another reason one should never leave Paris, you are always missing something divine if you do.

    and includes the tracks:

    'Change Partners and Diapers'

'You, Me and the Baby makes Twenty Three'

    'Midwife Crisis'

    'You're the Daddy, aren't you?'

    and Christmas bonus track:

    'Santa's Baby'

  23. I'd buy that album, Drummond!

Maria, I love the idea of clicking our heels and chanting "there's no place like Paris!" I'll have to memorialize that somewhere on my Facebook.

Alexa, do you have a photo of those shoes?

  24. I love this shoe photo. And the shoes I would wear in an instant! Your Animoto was just like being there. A big Merci!
