And now the fireworKS!

Don't pretend you're surprised, you knew it was coming LOL! I've said it several times, I generally don't like fireworks, but this one, never ceases to amaze me. Of course, the fact that it revolves around the the Eiffel Tower must play a role! I'm not the only one... According to the official sources there were 300 000 parisians on the Champs de Mars to watch the show...

  3. Eric, I love the effect of the overcast sky - it looks like the ocean! Sorry that I missed quatorze juillet this year...

  4. In a word: Wow! You're right—I DID know it was coming, but I'm thrilled all the same. Where were you—among the foule on the Champs de Mars or did you find a less crowded vantage point?

  5. The picture looks so alive!
ET Suzy...I was hoping you would be first.

I have been meaning to share this with PDP. At the end of June, while I was serving drinks on the ground in Business class at JFK, a woman introduced herself to me as a PDP blogger. She had attended the picnic and was told to look out for me!!!!!!!
I met Cathy Vail, who sometimes just signs as anonymous. OK, PDP world,I expect to meet one of you on my flt to Paris one day!!!!It CAN happen!

  6. Polly is so right. The sky looks like the sea. And those fireworks bursts up there? I see something like this. Still, Eric puts the natural world to shame.

  7. Hah! So, PHX, you met Cathy. Yes, she was at the picnic and joined us for dinner that night, also. Cathy is the first person interviewed on the video. That is funny that you two met. It's a small world.

The fireworks photo? Spectacular. I forgot to check that day: was there a simulcast like last year?

  8. I have been looking forward to this and thought you forgot! It was worth the wait.

Phx: what fun! Keep us posted when you meet more PDP fans.

  9. By the way, Phx, how did Cathy recognize you? Was it your attire?

  15. Eric, I like the "fireworsk" shot, and agree with the others that the sky looks like the sea. And the Eiffel Tower looks great all lit up. Maybe someday I'll see Paris for myself. Meanwhile, I see it through your photos.

  16. Pretty spectactular! How many shots did you have to take to get this one?

PHX - I remember us chatting with Cathy over dinner about this very thing. She said she always flew your airline and was going to look out for you in future. A woman of her word.

  19. Wonderful capture. It didn't occur to me, but the sky DOES look like the ocean. I just really like the overall effect you got with the fireworks and the Eiffel Tower.

  24. Magnifique! Here's a link to Texas Monthly about our annual Austin celebration of Bastille Day...
We visited Paris, 1st time, this April and thanks to that pesky volcano, we were 'marooned' in Montmartre for an extra week. Aw shucks! http://www.texasmonthly.com/2009-07-01/webextra9.php

@d.haws. Thanks for the link. I did not know all this - especially that France had a long history with Texas (and even that "France became the first country to recognize the Republic of Texas in 1939"?!!)

  26. What's odd is that there was an article on the BBC on how upset people were because the President canceled the fireworks due to it being an "excess expenditure" but the parade was still on...looks great though...
