The Mask!

Wednesday, July 28, 2010 Posted by Eric Tenin

I don't know if you remember, but I already showed you one of these masks last October and I know some of you find them scary, but I can't help being captivated by them. Unlike "simple" graffiti, they are strongly glued to walls, facades or, in the present case bridge (I took this photograph at Le Pont du Louvre). Like I already explained, they represent the face of Gregos, the artist who makes - and glue - them!

    I can totally understand your captivation! I like urban art - although not so keen on graffiti, especially mindless tagging.

    I wonder how easy it is to remove these masks without destroying what's underneath?

    We were in Paris in 2007 and came across this mask.

    Not exactly the same, but it reminded me of it.

    As I said last October, I wouldn't want it chez moi—but lots of fun to discover around town. Wonder what kind of glue he uses. :~}

    It's striking. Much more imaginative than graffiti. My reaction is much like Alexa's--not for my house, but fun to see on the street. In the daytime.

    Hey, Eric! You are sounding so bored [sp?]. I have an assignment for you. Interview my beloved Charles Aznavour.

    Interesting. I think I must agree with Alexa and Petrea, not on my house, but they do bring interest and comment to an otherwise grey wall.

    Là où ce masque est placé, on dirait vraiment un bouton d'appel pour obtenir un feu rouge afin que les voitures s'arrêtent et permettent aux piétons de traverser. Ce qui expliquerait pourquoi la peinture est aussi abîmée, un peu comme si ce masque avait été touché des centaines de fois. Le site internet de Grégos montre un nombre impressionnant de masques partout dans Paris. Assez amusant mais je n'en ai jamais vu en vrai! Je ne marche pas assez dans Paris, c'est certain! Ah si j'étais touriste, ce serait différent :)

    Wow, your shot of this is wonderful! Love the "split screen" and graphic quality. . .and that shadow. Trés cool!
