Opera house

Wow! I'm not in Paris right now - still in Portugal - but I already know this is not what the opera looks like today, as the weather is certainly not as sunny as this... And though I took this photo not a long time ago, while it was still cold - and obviously sunny. I'm sure you'll enjoy this view, even if it's not "live". I'm coming back today, so I'll check for myself ;-)

  1. Nice shot. Different from most Opera photos, but immediately recognized as the Opera Garnier.

    I like the sun. It is snowing right now. Again. And 7 F (-16 C).

  3. Ah Portugal. I almost became a permanent resident.

    When I was an art student at the Art Students League in NYC, I met a Pissarro of Portugal (grand son or great-grand son of the famous painter Pissarro -- I forget) . He was pursuing sculpture as a profession. We use to pose naked for the life drawing classes to earn money to pay for our rent and food. We were so hungry. He created a sculpture or me as a sphinx for his mid-term assignment. I never posed for it -- he did it from memory. He proposed marriage to me; but I am a city girl. Can you see me in my spiked heels on the family coastal estate in Portugal? I am not a nature girl. But I think Portugal must be a nice place to visit. I am assuming that you, Eric, are having fun. :-)

  5. Thanks, Eric—this really takes me back. I had this very view (and you've captured it so beautifully!) every day when I walked up the Avenue de l'Opera to get to work.
    Lois -- Now I have this picture of you in my head naked save for a pair of stilettos, on some fazenda in Portugal (or not, as you say). :~}

  6. The only place that I really wanted to see that I missed my first time in Paris. Ah well, that's what the next trip is for, right?

  13. Bonjour Eric,
    Lovely shot. You've captured the intricate architectural details of Opera Garnier under the sun's warmth. It looks like a wedding cake above the shadows. Enjoy your last Portugal moments. Therese

  14. I just love this building. It has so much charm and grace...the new Opera at Place Bastille is no comparison when it comes to unvarnished beauty.

  15. Megan and I had to chuckle about seeing the photo of the Opera. The morning we were going on the bus trip to Normandy, we got off the Metro and started to walk to wrong way. As soon as we saw the Opera, we realized it. Then we started to run and of course made it in time! Thanks for reminding us of Paris.
