Sold!
The real estate market in Paris is still very tense. Prices never seem to stop going up and up and up... (the average price/sq meter now amounts to 7 753 €, see more here, if you're interested). And though people keep buying apartments, like it says on that sign... But the real reason why I photographed it, is that this sign is no just "any" sign, it's a work of art designed by a very famous artist called Benjamin Vautier, aka "Ben".

I hope I can still rent an apartment in the city. I just figured a 15 sq meter apartment would cost me $155,000.00!
ReplyDeleteIt's the nicest Sold sign I've ever seen, Eric! Have a beautiful weekend...
ReplyDeleteIt truly caught my attention with its graphic look.
ReplyDeleteI am RENTING an apt. for a week on ile de la cite at the end of May for a bucketload. Wish I owned one.
phx-cdg--Any chance it is on rue Chanoinnesse? I stayed in one there a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteI am using parisaddress and it is on rue bourbon if I am spelling it correctly. it is a 6th floor walk up and Mr. pHX has been yapping about it for 3 years. I get the choice for the next week and I haven't decided yet where it will be located.
ReplyDeleteoMG. I think you stayed where my friend stayed .....a half block from Notre Dame...did it face a vine covered wall?
If only I could have bought an apartment in Paris back in the '60s—but of course at that time I barely had two sous to rub together. Oh well, I'll just keep buying a lottery ticket every week—and hope for a miracle! Meanwhile, nice handwriting, Ben! :~} And somewhat depressing post, Eric! :~{
ReplyDeletepdx--Yes! There is the BEST restaurant next door at number 26 (I think). Aux Vieux Paris d'Arcole. Great food, really friendly, you can go downstairs and pick your own bottle of vin from the cave. They have a web site if you Google them.
ReplyDeleteAlexa--Powerball is 185 million tomorrow. That's the only way I will ever get my Paris apartment. If I win, you can stay at the apartment any time you want.
Oh, Trampy, I just looked up the restaurant and I absolutely remember seeing it . It was so charming on the outside that I thought it was a tourist trap. foolish me. I have 4 Paris layovers next month and I am going there because of you!
ReplyDeleteA very elegant sign; it made a nice picture too.
ReplyDeleteIf only...I'm still dreaming of buying just a tiny apartment in Paris. It would be so great to own a little piece of Paris.
ReplyDeleteThe Connexions Group are obviously charging far too much commission if they can afford to pay very famous artists.
ReplyDeleteJust because it has a signature on it doesn't make it a work of art.
Sorry, totally pretentious.
Have a nice weekend!
My first thought was Drummond's comment! Is is worth paying for a professional artist for a sign? My second thought -- Yikes!! Property prices here are going down for the second year in a row. Sad, but true. But if you want a deal in real estate, check out Northern Michigan!
ReplyDeletepdx--I hope it's as good as I remember. When I was there the other patrons were speaking French, so as least back in 2004 it wasn't a tourist trap. The Ile de la Cite is certainly full of tourists waiting to be trapped.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful Paris week.
pdx--The coufidou (recommended by the waiter) at Aux Vieux Paris was OMG good.
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm sold. Buy one for me, Eric, ok?
ReplyDeleteArt for sale signs! Ok maybe CDP photosigns soon.
ReplyDeleteIf the rent is high then it must be very expensive to buy.
