Marché d'Aligre

Among the numerous markets that we have in Paris, the marché d'Aligre - located at rue d'Aligre, of course! - is probably one of the best ones. It's made of a covered area (built in 1779 and still operating nowadays - after a little face lift in 1843!) and an open air open air one, where I took this very Parisian photo. This market is open everyday except Mondays and it's definitely worth a visit if you come to Paris. More on this site - in French.

  1. I've not made it to the eastern part of Paris. This market is pretty big, so I'm sure it's a great place to shop. If I ever stay in that area, I definitely will visit this market.

  3. Ouaiss...Marche' d'Aligre!! My favorite market when I stayed in the 12eme, it is called the Notre Dame of Markets! If you click on "legumes" you will see a dancing "tomate farcie!!"...LOL! My Parisian friends always told me that Marche d'Aligre and rue Montorgeuil are their favorite markets so of course ET would be there! ;) I love the markets of Paris and have been to many of them and they each have their own charm and personality. Merci! We have many different "Farmer's Markets" here in SF also, but finding a good deal isn't always so easy!

  7. I miss the cancha in Bolivia! Of course, there is much less room to walk there, but it puts me in mind. I do love markets, and this one goes on my Paris list! (Also an apt near here...just lovely!)

  8. If I was shopping for an apartment in Paris (I wish!), I'd be looking in the 12th—just so this would be my local market! Atmosphere nicely captured, Eric!

  9. I thought this was a mirror of the nighttime photo you gave us not long ago -- that is, rue Montorgeuil in the daytime! I've never seen the Marche d'Aligre. So, this is a ditto to what Micheal said the other day - kudos for the many different views of daily Parisien life you give us. Life is an accumulation of moments and the moments you share let us walk with you through a bit of the tapestry that is your life in Paris. Merci!

  10. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.... this is a great shot!! I love these photos of the "traditional" Paris. These photos used to make me extremely homesick but now with the internet, not so much. Still, I really love this simple shot.
