La Pagode

Here is an odd place in Paris I never told you about... It's called La Pagode (the Pagoda), and like its name indicates it's a building shaped like a real Japonese Pagoda. Only, it's located in the 7th arrondissement, not far from the Rodin Museum. It was built in 1896 and offered by the owner of the Bon Marché department store to his wife (who was not impressed apparently for she ran away with his associate the year after!). Now it's a cinema that shows Art et Essai movies (that is everything BUT blockbusters!). Anybody can walk in and have a look, like I did yesterday afternoon.

  1. As far as that poor husband is concerned, this is an excellent example of the saying "No good deed goes unpunished." I love this place anyway—so glad you've shown it, Eric (and at such a good angle).

  2. Those look like Fu Dogs (Lion Dogs) guarding the doorway. We love our Pekingese and always smile when we see him represented in such huge, powerful statues. Are those Fu Dogs??

  7. Just beautiful. I like seeing Paris through your eyes - it's more personal than a guide book and shows glimpses of the real Paris rather than ust the tourist spots.

  8. This is such a beautiful place! I'd have put this on my list of things to see - right at the top, but I've never heard of it anywhere in years of reading about things to see in Paris. Thank you so much for the info and the beautiful, beautiful photo. That milky green glass in the door is just gorgeous. What was she thinking!? ;)

  9. WOW! What a fantastic entrance! If the outside entry is any indication of what the inside looks like, I'd love to see it.
