Beauty of decay

Today's theme day within the City Daily Photo community is "The beauty of decay". I must say that I really did not know what to post! I thought of digging something into my street garbage cans(!), but I quickly gave up! Instead I chose this shot that I took a few months ago that shows a "decaying" building somewhere in Paris. Whenever this happens graffiti artists take advantage of this "open air canvas" to turn it into a fancy (well sort of...) painting. So here you go... (I know it's a little far fetched!). Check other "decaying scenes" throughout the world!

  1. Does anybody know if there is a linky or where we go to add our theme day posts? This new format has me a little baffled.

    Thanks,

  2. Paris is so old, even its dirt is a treasured antique. All beautiful, to me.

  4. What a theme day !
I am not sure "the beauty of decay" is what I would love the most in a city like Paris, of course ;) !
At first, I thought 'Come on, is there any beauty in decay ?'. And I thought about it and checked the other decaying scenes throughout the world of citydailyphoto. And I loved many interpretations on the theme.
Someone, in comment, said : 'mind you, for a moment there I thought the 'beauty of decay' theme might've been referring to me' and I felt it very funny ! But all I saw made me agree that "Nature is the best artist, even in decay :)", which is another comment I read somewhere.
Last gem, I came across while surfing : "If you truly love Nature, you will find beauty everywhere". ~Vincent Van Gogh
And I thought there were really lots of beauty...

  5. Fascinating theme, and I love your choice. This is a bit like the Japanese concept of wabi sabi, which finds beauty in things that are worn and weathered (and gives me an excuse not to paint my apartment). Bon weekend!

  6. Beauty of decay? Microscopic photographs of fungus and mold are fascinating and beautiful. Oxidation produces the lovely green patina on a copper roof. Many wines improve with age. Cheese is the product of molding milk.

Which reminds me of an old Nipsy Russel joke:
    Rose are red,
    Violets are blue.
If they can make penicillin from moldy cheese,
They can sure make something out of you.

(This does not refer to a recent birthday.)

  8. The graffiti-minded found a way to express creativity where there would otherwise have been nothing. It's a perfect post for the day! And also perfect as (slightly:) unusual Paris!

  11. It's so sad that graffiti is such a universal expression...I've been amazed at the amount I've seen throughout the world...It's quite prevalent here in the cities of the US...

  12. I don't consider those that do this as artists of any kind. They are vandals. What they are doing to Paris and other cities is so sad!
