2009 Techno Parade

Like last year, Paris was turned into a giant Dance floor on the occasion of the Techno Parade a sort of carnival dedicated to electro music. Not exactly my favorite one, but I surely would not want to be considered as "old", so I went. And, well, it was fun. To watch, that is! I found this photo was "funny", as this is an empty bottle of Vodka, so I suppose this guy was not exactly sober (this probably helps dancing!). We have no laws against drinking in the street - or in a public space - (or if there is one, it's not respected...).

  1. Yes, that's a funny one to me!
    Sure you needn't Vodka Eric.
You are from the warmest kind, without it.
Sometimes, I need a little, yes just a bit. To forget my tensions... :-) nothing to worry about but a little relaxing !
Techno parade seems very odd for an old one like me.
I hope they had fun and so did you.

  2. Touche to yesterday's last comment, Jeff!

My question concerning the Techno Parade is, Where does one find out about events like these, Parascope? The newspaper?

  3. Great observation shot, Eric! My daughter came home from a summer trip to Portugal and said that's all she heard there and now is addicted to the danceable beat. She filled the house with it when she got home and found a radio station here that plays pretty much remixes of popular songs with a new techno twist. I must say, the housework went faster when that was on!

  4. I once took a photo in the south of France of a man pushing a baby stroller -- with a case of wine cutely snuggled inside it instead of the baby. Got him to smile, too! I'll bet this guy was smiling as he headed out to dance - hope he didn't wind up going over backwards!!

  5. Cute photo, Eric. I hope he didn't forget and set down on the bottle, Ouch!

  6. Cool, fun shot!
But are you sure the bottle is empty? Sure looks like there is something in it. Now, the real question is .. is the bottle half-full or half-empty?

  7. Tomate, it's half full! And I believe our friend is on his way to enjoy the rest of it. What a fun shot. I'm a little amazed that there are no laws about drinking in the street, but I shouldn't be. As long as you're not driving, how about enjoying Paris with a nice bottle of wine as you stroll? I'm going to remember that for my next visit...

  9. So that's what a back jeans pocket was designed for. Always wondered about that...

  10. Eric -- I'm not the biggest fan of techno either, but this does sound like fun. As for the bottle, like Petrea I say it's half full!
And I may not know much about vodka, but USelaine: I'm happy for you and Imma let you finish, but Denaka is the best vodka you never heard of—EVER! By the way, I believe Kanye SO deserves this.

  13. It may be vodka, but it's flavored with...something green. Ooh, that brings back a snaky memory. As a teenager, we would get lime flavored vodka and a lime "Mr. Misty" from Dairy Queen. (A horribly sweet soda full of crushed ice. Similar to a 'slushy'.) Poor the lime vodka into the Mr. Misty and you could go anywhere, drinking and looking very innocent. The thought of what that would taste like is enough to make my teeth hurt.

Spent last night at a club with lots of such techno music, but one where that is only half the club. Most of the night I spent outside. Party on.

  14. Jeff - I'm really happy for you and I'm gonna let you finish that vodka Mr. Misty, but the worst slushy vodka drink of all time, of all time, is...well, I can't really think of one worse than that!

  15. Carre, Petrea: I'm sure it's an optical illusin. If you wait until you're really tired, or leet's after having had a bad day at work, then it looks half-empty! ;)

As to the lack of laws about drinking in the street, I think there are laws about public drunkenness, but yeah, people can take a bottle of wine on a picnic, and if you think abou it, how can you not :) The only thing is, they can't sit on the grass .. pelouse INTERDITE! ;)

  16. I was there too. I took 78 pictures. I'll put some of them on line next tuesday...

J'y étais aussi, du côté du boulevard Saint Germain et du boulevard Saint Michel. J'ai pris des tas de photos qui seront sur mon blog dans les jours prochains...

  17. Apparently there are some laws against public drinking--my sister and I were "busted" for enjoying a plastic glass of wine in Place des Vosages while we watched my kids play on the playground there!

  18. OMG! You would never see such a picture in the U.S. The "contrevenant" would have been busted presto. I miss Paris...

  19. I do love Electronica, but I really dislike Techno. Drinking in the street sounds like a problem.

  20. We were "unlucky" enough to be sitting at a cafe on St. Michel when 300,000 teenagers, drunk on the street, some vomiting, 17 yr old girls carrying wine bottles, and complete mayhem, walked by our table with their underwear showing....and more!
I thought the St. Patrick's Parade in NYC was disgusting. This was hilarious and shocking!
We even videotaped some of these people.......and that music blaring and the litter and destruction.
Hard to believe the officials let that go on for 8 hours! WOW!
