The Beatles invade the Paris streets

Funny isn't? I took this shot last weekend right in front of my home, as this typical English bus passed by me, in the street. On top, there was a band playing Beatles' music - pretty well actually. I figured out it was some street marketing operation so I did some research... And I found out on this site and this one that all this was to promote a new game : The Beatles Rock Band (for Wii and PSP).

  1. Oh yeah, RockBand is promoting the heck out of this game everywhere. It's a big deal. I've seen Paul, Ringo and even Yoko being interviewed about it.

How fun to see this spectacle passing by on a bus though!

  2. One more thing...I'll take a mop top with my crown today.

  3. You got it, Suzy!
How convenient that this groovy photo op came right to you, Eric! And of course you made the most of it. This game came out here recently, and, as Suzy says, they're promoting it like crazy.

  4. LOVE it! I would though wouldn't I ;) he he those wigs are something else. They need a bit of a calming down hair cut lol Really love this pic Eric!! :)

  5. Great picture (and much promotion over here as well) but this isn't a typical London bus. There are a few like it for the tours similiar to the Paris ones but I am guessing they have all been adapted.

The most famous London buses are the Routemasters

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Routemaster

which were withdrawn from service about 5 years ago (for safety reasons - you could jump on and off whenever they stopped at a traffic light or traffic jam - and I did!). In the past few years a few have been re-instated on tourists routes - Oxford Street, Royal Albert Hall etc.

London buses now are either 'get on at the front' or 'bendy buses' where you can get on at any door as long as you have a prepaid ticket - not unlike the buses in Paris.

    I miss the Routemaster buses!

ps sorry this turned into a dissertation!

  6. As an almost lifelong Beatlemaniac I was happy to see this picture. The Beatles were at the George Cinq when they heard they had their first #1 in the US. I've seen the graphics in Rock Band and they're great. Thanks for this photo, Eric.

  7. This is the first I've heard of the game. (You heard it first on PDP, folks!--at least I did.) Looks like fun. I'm glad the band was good because they need some help with those wigs. But underneath them they look like very attractive guys. As well they should be, they have big shoes to fill.

  8. George Harrison's son was instrumental in writing the programme.

Despite the fact that I adored Paul at one time (heck I was only 4!) I soon developed a dislike of the group. My 'real' name is Eleanor and to this day people say 'Oh Eleanor Rigby' which is probably one of the most depressing songs ever! Why does nobody remember 'Lady Eleanor' or 'Elenore gee I think you're swell' - yes a different spelling but I will take what I can get!!!

  9. it's great seeing/hearing this generation get excited about the Beatles! My 15-year old and all of her friends are constantly updating their FaceBook statuses w/ Beatles lyrics.

  10. I think I would have done a doubletake if I saw this bus on the streets of Paris. What a laugh. What's even funnier is to hear street musicians who don't know English sing English in their phoenetic way.(Let's not discuss MY so called French accent).

I have a charm that I bought in England of a beetle which then opens up. Inside pops up a 3d of the Fab Four. To be worn with my Beatle teeshirt.

  11. That is very innovative marketing for a Wii/PSP game :)

  12. PHX, when "musicians who don't know English sing English in their phoenetic way", we say in France that they sing yoghurt (ils chantent en yaourt)... i.e. as if they had their mouth full of yoghurt ;-)
Sometimes, it can be quite funny...

  14. I'm a "fan" of the Beatles on Facebook, and they have been building up the publicity of this game there too.

Speaking of cultural memes, have you seen this one yet?

  15. For all the Beatles fans! Coincidentally, the Beatles:Rock Band game was released on the same day (9-9-09) as the new all 13 original classic Beatles albums digitally “remastered” for authentic sound on a CD’s pack, together with rare photographs.

  16. The guys are very young, so it's fantastic that the beatels are known by this generation...

  17. Becane I was about to say the same thing....they just released a series of digitally remastered CD's as well. The group does pretty well for not having released any songs in 10 years plus!

And Eric, why did you have to look online? You should have just assumed we all chipped in a few euro's and sent a bus by your place to say "Thanks!"...sort of like a singing telegram, but better....

  19. This must be the Magical Mystery Bus Tour!

    USelaine - Totally Topical!
Whatever your opinions about Kanye West's comments, what a great publicity stunt this was, with even Mr. President getting sucked in.

  20. How fun and cool! It's great when retro is cool :-) (Spoken by someone who well remembers the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show) :-)

  21. USElaine - LOL. :)

The boys do seem to endure - its really nice to see. Its surprising to me though - I thought they'd be yesterday's news to later generations. I've also been hearing that Vera Lynn's song from WWII (I think its called Some Sunny Day) is now a chart topper in England. I saw an interview with her and she was lovely and gracious. One never knows, I guess!

  22. LOL USelaine! I don't think he'll ever live this one down.

  25. This is a cool idea!
Hope they got all the copyrights before !?
Anyway, I confirm that even among the youngest people (like me... Er,... ok, actually like... my children...) The Beatles are (well) known.
Le temps qui passe n'enlève rien à ces petits trésors, bien au contraire!...

  26. Very nice! I am going to e-mail this to a friend, because she didn't believe me when I said I saw this bus going down the Champs Elysées.

Thanks for getting such a great shot of it.

  27. Wow everybody's talking about The Beatles a lot lately. Almost seems like they're making a "comeback"(if only it was possible).

This game must be really cool I've heard that there's a waiting list to get this new game.
