Geyser ?

Unusual scene today. Just in front of my office one the major water pipes in the street broke and caused a huge geyser in the middle of the street. As you can imagine, I quickly grabbed my camera, started shooting from my floor, then rushed down the stairs and took another round of photographs at the street level. BTW, the timing is not really appropriate as we're experiencing a terrible drought in Paris at the moment... Ooops. Sorry for the late posting, I made a mistake in the scheduling settings...

  1. Just when I went on the makingof blogspot suggested by ETSuzy and seeing this picture there already, I came back to PDP and look what finally popped up! The others were certainly first on the makingof......
This reminds me of some of the terrible explosions they have had in NYC in the past. Hope noone was hurt.

  2. These things are always such a nightmare! I hope traffic wasn't delayed too badly.

  3. This is spectacular... what time did it happen? A nice geyser would be a good idea in this area, me think!
In my opinion, Eric may have caused it, er... mentally. I mean, his mind is very powerful... and he did know Paris was experiencing a terrible drought. Silly me ? No, no, I am very serious! ;-)

  4. I love it Eric...and the photo on "The Making Of" is just like a scene our of a movie. Are you sure you didn't run into a fire hydrant with your scooter just to get a good photograph?

  5. That is spectacular ~ ouch, the water loss would hurt, though.

  6. This is reminiscent of what I see around Chicago. It points to the fact that the old infrastructures need to be updated. Unfortunately, under the present economic environment it is difficult to prioritize where the investments should be made.
Eric, your picture is very detail, in that it shows the high pressure water shooting little stones and pebbles clear into the air. Thank God the worker is wearing a hard hat!

  7. I thought the shot on The Making Of was pretty spectacular, but this one from your famous perspective is even more so! Glad no one was hurt.
(Phx -- I work in a building that is next to the site of that horrible steam-pipe explosion.)

  8. Vieux Fidèle? Are those Yellowstones, Bécane?

I suppose it is impossible for this translation to make sense...

  9. Just wanted to say merci Eric, for this site. I love Paris dearly and thanks to this site I get my daily dose of Paris through your photos and your commentary. Merci and keep it up.

  10. I've just realised that this is a photo taken by a geezer of a geezer looking at another geyser.

Better add that the UK meaning of geezer = guy, bloke, etc.
I believe it may have a slightly different meaning in the US and I wouldn't want to offend our beloved Eric!

  11. Common themes--aging infrastructure and drought. Just the other day a huge water main broke in another LA suburb, blocking streets for days. And during our recent fires in southern California so much water was used to fight fire instead of to drink or water crops.

As I said in "the making of"- that still doesn't make us similar to Paris! Although maybe it shows that humans struggle through familiar things, all across the planet.

  12. Wow, look out!! Happens here, too, but usually fire and smoke follows. Pretty cool shots! Hope they managed to fix that promptly so the neighborhood didn't go without water.

  14. What a fab photo! Well worth running down all those stairs Eric. Seems you must have some great views from your office. How about doing a 360 for us?
