Open air museum

This is a part of what they call "an open air exhibit" which is, in fact, a collection of tags and Graffiti on a huge canvas hiding a building that is currently being redone. The photo was not easy to take as the building is enormous and the street in which it is located (rue de Prosny) is pretty narrow... So even with a wide angle I could only take a small portion of it. The idea is good though and the project too; not only does it hide ugly work, not only does it promote artists but on top of that their work will be sold for a charity at the end of the work, in July. There is much more to learn on the website (in French only, sorry) under the tab "Wagram"

  1. Excellent. I see about 7 pieces I'd like to buy there.

  2. Hey! I was just passing through and had forgotten that you post around midnight, so it looks like am amongst the first commenters today!
As an abstract artist this seems like a pretty good idea to me. I'm not a massive fan of tags or graffiti which is just fancy letters but I fully appreciate that it gives people a creative way of expressing themselves and that can only be good!

  3. Rue de Prony and avenue de Wagram. Neat old brick building. I'm glad they're working on it.

Remember we were talking about the visually creative construction sheathing at our bistro dinner on Sunday? Today you've shown us a variation.

  4. Oh wow! Just seen the PDP Picnic vid and my good self bringing up the rear end as usual (I'm last)! You know, it's pretty unusual to see oneself on video, and I must say, I'm impressed. I don't look too drunk, I'm vaguely coherent, and even my shirt doesn't seem too stained, despite my utter ineptness at eating anything from a plastic plate with a plastic fork without wearing about two thirds of it. Thanks for including me Eric, and making me some small part of the PDP experience. RDV next year, same time, same place, for another Sabarific photo op!.

  5. Over the years, Eric, you have had quite an influence on our annual visit to Paris -- we'll be in Paris again at the end of June, early July, and this building will definitely be on our list -- thanks for all you do to introduce your gorgeous city to all of us!

It was fun to put a face to your comments by seeing you on the video.

  7. Thanks for making the effort to get this awesome shot, Eric! One more time: Hate graffiti, love graffiti art—which this definitely is. Will this still be up in September? Just got back from seeing A Bout de Souffle (Breathless)—wow!—I'd almost forgotten how beautiful Belmondo was.

  9. Ahhh! This building and its "open air exhibition" is close to where in live when in Paris! And everytime I see it, I say to myself "this is a shot for Eric"...
    Done ;-)

  10. This turned out so nice, especially with that bit of sky above the installation. If you had to pick one of the ones visible, which would you choose?

  11. I love these, we have one in Cheltenham in the summer. Good luck to all the artists!

  12. This is such a great idea, and it's winn winn to both the artists and the charity.
I would like to see this wall of paintings in person.

  13. This is a brilliant idea!! Oh, how I wish someone here would think of it...We have an eyesore of a building project that has been there for 4, count 'em, 4 years and surrounded by an ugly green tarp and fence. A whole block!! Think I will send a link to the city here. Great shot, Eric!

  14. Bettina, I was thinking of that as well : a 'winn winn' operation...
How to call the contrary one, btw ? Is it a 'lost lost' one? Don't know if it is used. Surely not!

I'm pretty sure you already spoke about this 'Tag and Graffiti' exhibition, Eric, but I can't remember and find when it was. Maybe you spoke of it indirectly. I don't like when I can't find...! :)

  15. Even from the looks of the picture the whole thing looks enormous, really huge! I like the concept behind such new events instead of the art galleries as usual new locations sounds good.

  16. Sounds great! I've been to a lot of open air concerts but never to an open air museum. The usual museum visit have always been a big bore but open air museum sounds interesting.
