White Balloons

What is this lady doing with these balloons in the middle of the bushes?! Sorry, I'm too tired right now to tell you the whole story... You will have to wait until tomorrow to find out! I know the suspense is probably unbearable (LOL) but that is the way it is. You can take a guess in the meantime... Update. A lot of you guessed. this lady was going to Le Dîner en blanc (The White dinner party), like every year. Check this little Animoto.

  6. Was kind of hoping she was on her way to yesterday's celebration, but I also have to go with the white dinner party—if so, can't wait to hear all about it. And this photo is awesome, Eric!!

  7. She looks somewhat Bloomsbury-ish. She should be in London. : )

  8. I wonder if we are seeing another Tenin theme: the drive-by fast click. Does he do that while driving or riding as a passenger?

  10. OUI! The white dinner party! Eric called me the MINUTE he got the message and told me to go to the waiting area between the Concorde and rond point on the Champs E. I was the only one there as I was there in 5 minutes! Then people in white with rolled up tables and chairs and rolling carts(with their dinner in it) started coming out of nowhere and waited in the adjoining parks on either side. Eric found me (ahh, the beauty of cell phones) and we chit chatted for half an hr, then BOOM! All the white ants started moving en mass from either side of the Champs to Concorde. What a sight to see. Eric biked there while I walked with the people and we found each other again. Then Eric got the word to go to the courtyard of the Louvre where the Pyramid is located. Then more people started showing up in BUSSES! I counted 10 huge busloads of people streaming out into the Louvre grounds! will stop to print and will finish.

  11. There were HUNDREDS if not a few thousand people ALL dressed in white ,all with white tablecloths all with table and chairs. This was Paris, and not a backpacking crowd. Some tables had candleabras and some with crystal. There was champagne corks popping up into the sky everywhere! An interesting side note was the pockets of singing of Happy Birthday to friends....sounds funny to me to hear it in French....but a great way to spend your birthday. There were a few bands , all in white, playing festive music around the Louvre, and me and a few others wandering around in bluejeans taking pictures.
A garbage truck rode by the street that splits the Louvre and started honking his horn to the partygoers. All the sudden, people started twirling their white napkins in the air in a wave like you see in American football games. The Eiffel tower lit up in a sparkle on the hr. in the backround and it all turned magical.
Thank you thank you Eric, for letting me into a life enhancing experience. Eric. who was lost from me at this point... couldn't even get me on the phone because the lines were jammed with people trying to find their friends' tables. Can you imagine how many people there were???????
What a country, Paris plage, fete de la musique, velibs, white night, white dinner....you fill in the rest!

  12. A very nice white. Like a deep and moving white.
It reminds me of the White Dinner 2009 and the day after. One year in-between. Quite amazing and though not amazing. In fact, 365 days plus 6 days. 371 days. I remember July, August, Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec, January, Feb, March, Apr, May and now. I remember all. All photos. And that is a lot. Of photos and precious moments, you know. So is the White Dinner, like any other D-Day, there to remind me of the times flying but not wasting. LOL!
No. There's much more than that. There's so much more. A lot of work. A lot of time. A lot of huge pleasure. A lot of all. A lot.

  17. "What a country, Paris plage, fete de la musique, velibs, white night, white dinner....you fill in the rest!" Lovely sentiment, Phx. Couldn't agree with you more.

Glad you were able to witness this amazing event and to share it with us.

  18. Sorry I have been super busy all day and could not provide you with the explanation...

But I'm glad PHX did it (and yes, like Drummond said, I think you had a blast LOL)

Too bad I could not reach you on the phone (the network was overloaded!) I heard 12000 people were there...

Anyway I'm currently preparing an Animoto with a selection of the zillion photos I took.

  19. Did

  20. Great story, PHX!!!

Eric, don't leave one single photo out of that animoto! I hope you got a snap of PHX too. I miss my friend.

  21. From what I can tell from looking at YouTube videos, the napkin waving is always in response to a honking horn, matching what PHX stated above. Is that true?

  22. Non Suzy I don't have a photo of PHX because I lost her in the crowd and was unable to call her because of the cellular network congestion...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ah but I'm sure you can photoshop her into one! Just kidding.

  24. What a great animoto Eric! Your series of photos and videos mixed together give an excellent result. Isn't it the first time both videos and photos appeared like that?
    Plus a great soundtrack.
I don't know how much time it can take to you but let me tell you it is really good to see. Thank you for being there.
