Back to La Défense

I spend quite a lot of time at La Défense (the main business district of Paris) these days... This week I went there last Monday. The weather was absolutely fantastic and I spent some time wandering in between the skyscrapers... I also took this photo. Easy, but nice! BTW, here is a useful information: there is a huge shopping mall over there and it's the only one of the close Paris suburbs to be open on Sundays!

  1. This shot reminds me of Manhattan! & thanks for the tip Eric. When I make Paris my permanent residence I will keep it in mind.

Your photo is great, easy or not.

  3. Well, to what Lily said I just say: ditto! And I'll add that at least the tall towers of La Défense aren't right in the middle of Paris—like the horrible you-know-what.

  4. Oh that's funny, I just saw a movie called The Cat with Jean Gabin and Simone Signoret shot in 1971 when they were destroying all the little buildings in la Courbevoie to make way for the new district. The movie is not really about that, but it is an underlying element and you can see some of the early towers and construction. they've managed to make La Defense quite beautiful, if you're into modern industrial stuff, but in the beginning it wasn't so pretty. Even in the late 70's there wasn't that much going on there and I remember a ton of mud and ongoing construction everywhere. Not really a fun, happening place to work at, back then. Now it's really impressive.

  7. Yes, I keep saying I'll go see La Defense, but last time I went to l'Ille de la Grande Jatte instead. Next time!

    Very artistic photo, mon ami.

Shopping? There is a Louis Vuitton exhibit at Musee Carnavalet.

  10. Wow, it's been ages since I went to La Défense, and yet I used to live in Puteaux and go there every day back in my English teaching days! Love the architecture and the buzz but it's true it lacks a bit of soul. The weird sculptures help tho'.

  11. I'm not usually one for skyscrapers ... but this one is kind of interesting. There aren't any close to where I am (at least 3-5 hours away driving) so I don't see them often. I love the squares around the windows and the pattern that the lines make though! Very artistic.

  14. I've heard alot of people dis La Defense, but I always thought the area was cool & I also like that this modern zone is separate from Paris' historic center. I didn't know about the mall though!! And I can go there on Sunday!!! Who's got my plane ticket?

    Another lovely shot, Eric.

  16. Coach handbags outlet stores have become a shopper’s paradise where experienced bargain hunters now flock. We do not blame them, because the Coach Wristlet provides some fashionable bags. Most of people loves finding a good deal in Coach Poppy outlet stores!
