Jeff Aerosol
You know how I love to show you the street artists I come across when I walk through the streets of Paris (see several examples here). The most famous one, to me, is Jeff Aerosol. Last Friday, as I went to the opening of a Urban Art exhibition at Gallery Uni-ver I finally got to meet him (and yes, as you probably have guessed, he is the little man in this photo ;-) As for the blue figure in the foreground it was made by another well-known street artist: Zlotykamien.

A lot of people guess that graffiti street artist are young, very young indeed. You prove that is a mistake, Eric. Greetings from Tilburg
ReplyDeleteAerosol must be young at heart then. Is it Henri Matisse or someone else? I recall an artist saying "Il faut regarder la vie avec des yeux d'enfant." Well, sth along the line...
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and original shot at the same time!
ReplyDeleteI almost bought a book of graffiti art this afternoon but as I did not have enough time to look at it, I did not take it. I'm regreting now. I'll look for it another time.
Thank you Eric for initiating me to these beautiful pieces.
That's really great to look again at your previous graffiti shots.
Yes Keats, this is Matisse who said "il faut regarder toute la vie avec des yeux d'enfant" and this makes a lot of sense. I spent the evening with my eldest and looked at everything like her eyes were doing it. I must keep this now ;-)
* with my youngest in fact, but it does not make a lot of difference for you, of course ;)
ReplyDeleteI liked this post. I like street art too. I think that the Internet fulfills very well one of his roles that is to bring people and cultures. Thank you for sharing this great post.
ReplyDeletegreetings from Roberto
@Flore
ReplyDeleteThat makes a great difference! I like to see how people live their life. Presumeably, mine is somewhat side-tracked, to put it mildly.
Thanks for the Matisse quote. "It faut regarder toute la vie avec des yeux d'enfant." Again, the trick is in "TOUTE"...heheheeee...
Thx 4 everything, Flore!

@ tous et @ toutes
This little creature looks like a condom to me. Is it just me?
How exciting! I love his work and found many of his stencils around Buttes aux Cailles. I wish I could have told him how the PHOTOGRAPHER he met made him well known to many others.
ReplyDeleteI can't find any info to back me up, but was Zlotykamien the person who painted eyeballs on bollards around Paris? There was a picture of those on PDP, too.
So cool that you got to meet him, Eric! As PHX says, he should only know how many know about him because of you. (And did he pose for you like this?)
ReplyDelete@Peter "A lot of people guess that graffiti street artist are young, very young indeed." In fact they are mostly artists that need exposure. And as you all know it takes time before you become a well known, successful artist. And painting the streets of Paris are one way of becoming famous and... eventually end up in a gallery.
ReplyDelete@Roberto. Well, things have not changed a bit since the cave ages... Painting the walls of our environment is probably a way of marking our territory.
@PHX-CDG "...the person who painted eyeballs on bollards around Paris ?" No, but wait a little ;-)
@Keats and Flore. I did not know about this quote by Matisse, but I kinda like it (even though I quit looking at things that way a long time ago ;-))
Hmm...I can't claim I know a thing about Matisse, but I used to give away his reprints on postcards. There are those blue silhouettes printed with the above mentioned quote. I am not a great fan of Matisse, so I have to wait till Flore confirmed his authorship.
ReplyDeleteIn that capacity, I prefer Paul Cézzane, esp. his still life.
It must have been quite interesting to meet this street artist. I personally love Monet and the colors that he used. In fact, I have several Monet prints in my house to go with the different colors I have on my wall! But thank you, Eric, for opening my world to more art and different kinds as well. :)
ReplyDeleteStreet art and Pop art are more and more pieces I love.
ReplyDeleteTalking about painting I began to love the impressionnist paintings, of course like lots of people, but now, I'm a big fan of the expressionnist trend from Germany during the 1910 years. I know you can find this way of speaking a little bit snobby but no! I really found in love with these German painters.
Keats, you reminded me of the Matisse quote and I checked it on Internet. I'd love to say that it was in my mind but I googled it last night to be sure!
Eric, don't tell me you quit looking at life with your heart for I would not believe you !
I love the way you took this photo; most of us would have probably chosen to make a classic portrait, probably a close up and you chose this very interesting angle.
ReplyDeleteI think it's very creative.
i feel this piece is the most interesting piece. so simple and creative
ReplyDeletemirror is magic if we can use them right for photography
