Paris goes into the wild...

Being a very urban person, I start feeling home sick after two days outside the Périphérique (the motorway that runs around Paris) ;-) But that does not prevent me from enjoying a little visit to the country from time to time... That is why, this weekend, following to the invitation of Marc Thouvenin from Regioneo.com I went to Le Pari Fermier at Bercy, a little farmers' market specially made for Parisians who, as we all know, only live off frozen food! And I must confess I kinda fell for some of their stuff - especially some unforgettable Crèpes stuffed with chestnuts jelly... (I'll also show you some of the cheese they had there if you're good ;-). On top of that they also had an exhibit of decorated farm boots, which I chose to photograph for you. Here are the ones that should win the "2010 Pari Fermier Oscar", in my opinion!

  1. Dusty colours and snails, delicious :p

I call them irresistible beauty, of nature.

    Cheers, everyone!

  2. Doesn't this mean "The Farmer's Wager"? I don't understand this name. Does it mean they're ready to barter for the beets?! Or the boots?!! (They're cute!) You can pull yourself up by the snails. ;-)

  4. LOL! What a nice bunch of humor in this post. I too feel homesick pretty quickly outside the Paris boundaries but these lovely boots would have been very much appreciated by my 2 years old nephew yesterday.
I love snails! They go slowly obviously but, hey, when you bring your home on your back, you can't go faster, can you?
Lots of appetizing goods were apparently brought inside this 'Pari Fermier' exhibit.
Hmm seems like you tasted some of them, didn't you ?

  5. Hmm, as someone who firmly believes that snails should be in my mother's garden eating her lettuces, and not on plates being eaten, this photo gives me the creeps a bit. Did you pluck any of them off and pop them into your mouth for a juicy snack when no-one was looking Eric? I passed by there and could have sworn there were two or three more crawling over those wellies... ;-)

  6. oooh yessss............ I see you have been in my garden Eric! :)
what a great pixie; although I should REALLY turn every French person off eating escargots!!! (hopefully!)

Thanks for this great shot and the info - you just teach us so many news we would have no idea of without you. I would love to taste the cheeses!

  7. The artist definitely has a sense of humor. And what a clever idea—boots with a built-in snack (at least for those of us who like escargots)! And I promise to be good, so cheese please!

  8. My son thought these were funny. I think they are very imaginative and we both thought that an ocean-themed pair of boots would be cool as well. Sea shells on the bottom, fish and seaweed painted on there...so cute!

Hope you all have a wonderful Monday!

  9. As you may have noticed from Sab's comment -in the UK, we call these type of boots 'Wellies', an abbreviation of 'Wellington Boots', so called after the Duke of Wellington.
Whether he wore them at the Battle of Waterloo. I don't know, but if he did, I'm sure they didn't look like these!

At country fairs, there are often Welly throwing competitions, perhaps the sort of thing that gives an urban sophisticate like you, Eric, your allergic reaction to the countryside.

  13. I have some rain boots, what we Americans call them, and mine are bright pink with white polka dots. I firmly believe in bringing some sunshine to a rainy day! ;) These are very fun!
