A must visit building
I may have found a more beautiful ceiling than the one of the Sistine Chapel in Rome! OK, I'm kidding, but it's really worth the look (besides I don't think it's in many Paris guidebooks...). It's located in the Paris Bourse du commerce (commodities market) that is located near Les Halles. It is built on the former wheat market and from what I read this glass ceiling is the only remain of this early building. The painted part is also stunning: it was made for the world exhibit of 1889 and it shows the history of commerce on the 4 continent. You HAVE to see this if you come to Paris.

J'aime big glass ceilings. I have not seen the Bourse. Nice tip for next time. I love the ceinlings at the Grand Palais, Printemps, Samaritaine, and the Bibliotheque National. I even like the big train stations with their huge glass barrel vault ceilings.
ReplyDeleteWhat Jeff said. Besides, if you tell me I must see it—then you know I will, mon capitain! And this is a very intriguing shot.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful shot, Eric.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a beautiful ceiling, Eric and a very interesting shot too. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLovely Ceiling... It's hypnotic:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful ceiling! I now realise that I glimpsed this building down a side street while walking about the Palais Royale in July- but I didn't know what it was at the time. Paris has so many treasures. I will definitely try to seek it out next time. It looks magnificent and intriguing.
ReplyDeleteC'est Magnifique! It is beautiful and I imagine that the people who work there never look up. Thanks to you, Eric, I never get used to the view. I'm always looking for something new or enjoying what I've seen a thousand times.
(sorry for the French) Flore
If you ever get a chance, I'd love a photo of the ceiling of the staircase of the tower of Jean Sans Peur. (That's a lot of "of thes".) It's really an interesting place; I saw it when they had an exhibit on food in the middle ages. A nice contrast to this one!

Paris has so many beautiful ceilings, not to mention the carved doors and building embellishments. You don't know which way to look! It is all beautiful.
