Paris Barbour Ad

No, this Barbour ad does not currently run in London, neither in Bristol nor in Brighton (our latest member of the Daily Photo Family!) but in... Paris. And yes, although there is no garment more British than the good old Barbour (some) French people are also very fond of it - I think I even have one in my cellar somewhere! Love the way they painted the Cab.

  2. Thanks for the plug Eric....I really had better not let you down - you have some great photos.

I'm off to go and find my wax Barbour jacket now - I haven't seen it in ages.

  3. WHen I lived in London, they had so many cabs that were painted with adverts. I wish I took pictures of them.

  5. I had never heard of Barbour when I lived in London, but in Paris I know the name well. Still don't like it too much, but apparently somebody is buying the gear.

  6. Michael - you've kinda missed the point, they aren't meant to be seen in London (In fact, it is a bit naff to wear one in town) but they are seen in the counties - they are the archetypal hunting/shooting/fishing wear. But for many years I've seen them in Paris, as part of "la style anglaise". Rather like Burberry used to be pretty big donthe boul'mich (are they still? In the UK the brand has bombed as a result of its own popularity and adoption by "chavs"). Quite funny really.

  8. Hi Eric,
An artist friend of mine used to style the colors for decals (like the one on the car) that were placed on the tails of Alaska Airlines'jets. The airline has since changed their huge logo of an indigenous person's face framed by a fur parka hood to a simple name graphic, and my friend no longer works for the art company involved in the decals; but, it made me aware of the same sorts of products on buses--even over the windows, like on the car. It's amazing what can be done.
