I don't know if that's a huge goldfish or a miniature seagull, but something's out of proportion for sure! How on earth did you get that bird to pose for you? I love the ripples in the water too, Eric.

I presume, especially if this is an ornamental lake in the gardens, that this is actually a Koi Carp, rather than a goldfish - though they are related - which would account for the large size of the fish in relation to the bird.

As for me, I witnessed a seagull kill and eat a pigeon last week. Quite impressive, even if I feel no sympathy for "flying rats" !

Wako - Sorry, but refrain from commenting if you are going to say anything that negative. Eric has been showing us unusual aspects of Paris for quite a while now, and that is the beauty of this site. Sometimes Eric's Paris meets our stereotypical image of what it is, and sometimes it does not.

LOL! It's actually an interesting discussion. I guess the funny part about this photo that yes, could have been taken anywhere, is that it was taken in the middle of Paris in the Luxembourg Gardens, I don't know how many kilometers away from the sea. Somehow the seagulls have found their way to culture in Paris and have survived the pigeons as well.
That's ok Waco and Elisabeth, we all have our opinions and it's nice to see people wanting to defend Eric. It's still a "cool, cliché" world...regardless of dubya Jeff. :-)

Waco: I've been following this blog for quite a while, and most of the times, you'll see things that are very specifically Parisian, yet, not really touristic either. Go ahead and click on the archives and see for yourself.
If you want to see more traditional photographs of Paris, then you're probably not on the right site. There are some, of course, but it's really not that kind of blog, in my opinion. Again, I insist this is just my opinion, but I think this blog is more a personal interpretation of Paris by a guy nice enough to keep up the effort every day and share with the rest of the world. Yet, if you pay attention, he'll show you all kinds of things you might not even notice when you are a tourist in Paris. Anyway, hope that helps.
Personally, I thought the 3 bird shots were incredible, but hey, what do I know, I only hang out here because it's fun.

Tomate, I think you said it perfectly. We see great shots here, many of which are perfectly Parisian. Other shots are interesting in and of themselves, and the Paris hue makes them better for me because I love the city so much. I think it's great to have the conversation. And, yes, Eric does a great job with this blog. I love it for many reasons, and that's only my opinion. Have fun, all, I'm off to a baseball game. (Not Parisian.)

Well I had no idea this photo could trigger such a controversy. I must confess that I hesitated before publishing it - precisely because I thought it was odd to show such a scene on a Paris blog.
And then I thought, well, it did happen in Paris so what the hell!?
Anyway. Just FYI, to capture this I used the continuous mode of my camera.

I must confess that I hesitated before publishing it - precisely because I thought it was odd to show such a scene on a Paris blog.
Well, Eric, you shot it in Paris, so it belongs! :-D
This is, of course, just my opinion, but you know it seems to me that anybody producing a picture a day is entitled to doing his/her own thing now and then, don't you think? ;)
Clearly, people want to see explicit shots of Paris when they come to your blog, but that IS a shot of Paris, too.
Paris has a lot of "espaces verts" (parks) and if you walk through this parks, you will be pleasantly surprised to see how peaceful they can be, even though they are not very large (in comparison to Central Park, Golden Gate Park, or other US parks) and right in the middle of an incredibly busy city.
OK, I'll shut up now.
