One place you must visit if you come to Paris is the infamous Place du Tertre. Known for its artists and romantic feel, the little village at the top of Montmartre attracts tourists and locals alike. After taking a stroll around the place, you then might want to drop into this little place called Aux Cadet de Gascogne located at number 4. I know there are many food lovers among you, so you can see their menu here if you want to pre-plan! FYI, la Gascogne is a beautiful region in the South West of France and Les cadets de Gascogne were famous soldiers under the reign of Louis the 13th.
Note: I am currently on vacation at the moment and I will be back on August 27. I can read your comments, but will not be able to reply until I return, thank you.
Great Shot! This is a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteOK, now you are REALLY teasing us, Eric! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhy "infamous" Place du Tertre, by the way?
Mmmm.... Nice place. I checked the menu and I'm definitely starving now.
ReplyDeleteEric, when you get back, could you put together a little internet tip sheet or seminar on what you've learned about night shots. You've become so good at capturing great quality images. Do share!

Good question Tomate Farcie: i guess you meant "famous", Eric?
ReplyDeleteThe Place du Tertre is the heart of Montmartre which is maybe the most typical area of Paris.
"infamous" or "famous"\ Place de tertre still holds a lot of charm...that is if you can dodget the tourists to see the paintings being made there.
ReplyDeleteI do like the Place de tertre but I seem to hold on to by handbag Tight all the time. We tourists are sitting ducks you know! LOL
ReplyDeleteLadyjicky, you brought up a very good point and you are very wise to do that! People visiting Paris - and not just the touristic areas! - should remember to pay attention at all times in the subway, bus or any other crowded public place!
ReplyDeleteAnother lovely shot of my favorite eglise a Paris, and what a coincidence..I'm having a glass of a very nice White Wine from Gascogne!! Unfortunately, I'm not being served "poolside..." like some people..Ahemmm!! I believe you have two more days of vacation, so enjoy Eric!!
ReplyDeleteVery touristy and tacky place, I do not recommend it. It is a trap, and there is nothing authentic at all in this area anymore. It looks like Disneyland. It is packed days and nights with cheap (mostly americans and eastern europe) tourists packaged tours : the worst place to go in Paris, avoid it by any means.
ReplyDeleteLooks very interesting! And your shot is fantastic Eric!
ReplyDeleteI only go to that area anymore to buy souvenirs - because it has the highest concentration of souvenir shops in Paris. But - it is way overcrowded, artists really harass you to draw your portrait or caricature, and it is probably an area where you have the greatest chance of getting pick-pocketted. I had a very bad experience there in spring 2005, although I did go back later on (for souvenir-shopping.) It's unfortunate, because it really is a nice area of Paris, from which the view is quite spectacular.
ReplyDeleteThe restaurant's menu looks great, though!
This is a great perspective of an often photographed area. I like how the church looms in the background.
ReplyDeleteAhhh...I wouldn't be so hard on the place. When you're a tourist in Paris, it IS definitely some place to see. And at night, there are still a few places that attract the locals on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteMouth-watering & eye-watering (with nostalgia for me) at the same time. And le Sacré Coeur rising up out of the night really makes it!
ReplyDeleteMichael, I just missed you! This is a big request; please can you come over & leave me an e-mail address. Need to contact & your own blog a été consigné à quelque part ailleurs.
Walking down from Sacre Coeur, through Place du Tertre, you experience crowds of tourists. But the Place is still pretty. Continue descending behind the Place, the throngs thin, the din diminishes, peace prevails. Magical, marvelous Montmartre. Mmm, this is why you love Paris.
ReplyDeleteCan't get into your blog Nowhere Man
ReplyDeleteMichael, it's BLOGGER again. !$#@!! Arrghh!
ReplyDeleteDildra is right, the Place du Tertre is often crowded, but it would be a pity not to see it when one is in Paris.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Montmartre is an overall cute area which can't be summerized in this "Place". When i go there, i go through it and have a walk in areas around where there are much less people (sometimes no people at all), to see the vinyards, the "Lapin Agile", the "allée des brouillards", the "rue de l'abreuvoir", the "place Emile Goudeau" (where the "Bateau Lavoir" is), the "musée de Montmartre" (oldest house of Montmartre), the "Villa Léandre", the "Place des Abbesses".
(the "Place des Abbesses" is the Montmartre of the Parisians. On this Place, a tiny garden hides the "le mur des 'je t'aime'" on which 'i love you' is written in 280 languages. I recommand to you a bar there called "Le Baroudeur", which is open until 05.00 in the morning).

Wonderful photo Eric. I like the Sacre Coer caught in the background. Perfect lighting!
ReplyDeleteI hope that you are enjoying your travels . . . . .time to reenter now.
Ah, great, blogger is up again! Pfeww... darn thing ate up my entire comment earlier today. Hmmfffff... I was saying ...
ReplyDeleteI think you guys should definitely go visit Montmartre and Sacre Coeur when you go visit Paris, even though it is a highly touristic area and you will have to pay attention to the pickpockets. The view from up there is magnificent, and if you choose to hike up there through the residential/ non-touristic areas of the 18th Arrt., you will see a Paris that hasn't changed in decades, with the possible exception of having cleaned up the front of the buildings a little. Lots of things to see in that area, small and narrow streets, steep stairs, just the way Doisneau and the others photographed them long ago. Perhaps some of you guys already know some of the neighborhood since the movie Amelie Poulain was filmed on location in the area.
Impressive, Haxo, thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy Partenaire and I are reading the history of the Lapin Agile. We had a wonderful time there last year even though we only knew the words to one song. (One by George Bressan.) The tourists were far too many but we are tourists ourselves. We try to go where the French go but it is hard to avoid American and English tourists. They love France and so do we.
ReplyDeletethis is one of the most beautiful places in Paris.
