This morning, on my way to work, I passed by the opera and my eyes got caught by a thick grey smoke on the
avenue de l'Opéra. Of course I stopped, grabbed my camera and rushed to the fire scene. It was a car, as you can see and the firemen were already there. Quite unusual (except by rioting times of course!). More photos
here.
Cool shots. As you can imagine, pictures of firemen are always appreciated ;)
ReplyDeleteI wonder what happened to that poor car, though. At least, it seems very isolated in the middle of the street, so that's a good thing. Hope nobody was hurt.
A sad event for the owner and his family. I hope they did not lose too many personal possessions.
ReplyDeleteNevertheless we appreciate your fast work, Monsieur and it is always wonderful to see Paris daily events even though some are quite sad.
And, 'men in uniform' will always please the ladies!
Oh, oh. Get ready. I'll just say that the helmets are pretty spiffy.

It seems that the car was just parked there and not involved in any car accident. How did it manage to get on fire like that?!
ReplyDeleteBTW, so you pass by the Opera building everyday on your way work hummm... I feel sorry for you Eric, being forced to look at these landmarks everyday... ;-)
Cool shot!! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou are my souce for my French news.
I wonder what happened?
ReplyDeleteI just got home from Jazz night at the High Museum and walked through the Louvre exhibit...not nearly as good as the actual Louvre but pretty cool for the A-T-L.
It is 28F here...brrr. I looked at Paree's weather and it will be 60F on Saturday!!! Johnny will have some great temperature while he's visiting! Lucky duck!
Always good to see photojournalism of spot news.
ReplyDeleteBravo pour votre blog en général, c'est vraiment varié et intéressant! Je vais regarder quasiment chaque jour.

Unfortunate event for the owner, hope none were hurt. And speaking of smoking outside, I wonder how the new smoking regulations are working out in France?
ReplyDeleteHello from Zurich. No burning cars here! Just chocolate!
ReplyDeleteMichael,
ReplyDeleteYou just have all the luck, Monsieur.
And while you have snow, we are having 40° C and hoping NOTHING burns.
Le proprio a du laisser son DELL dans la voiture. :)
ReplyDeleteM Benaut: It's 104F where you are??? Where ARE you?
ReplyDeleteFrancofile: You asked about the new anti-smoking ordiance in France. While I was there...everywhere still allowed smoking. They have a year or something before it's mandatory...not sure of the exact specifications but nevertheless.....smoking was allowed just about every place we were in....yay for us!
ReplyDeleteSusan, from what I understand, it's only in public buildings such as offices and municipal buildings for now. As you said, they have another year for it to take effect in cafes and restaurants etc.
ReplyDeleteM Benaut, I'd take the heat any day! Snow doesn't appeal to me very much, except from a comfy chair in front of a fire place looking out of the window.
ReplyDeleteEric, I think this is a great photo and a real "capture". Not something you see on the streets of Paris every day!
What a surprising amount of damage from a simple car fire.... I've seen photos of cars that were bombed but came off better! What do Renault use to make cars these days... tissue paper?
