Birthdays and anniversaries...
Today is January 21st and on top of it being my birthday (and a VERY important one !!) it's also the anniversary of the death of Louis the XVIth. He was guillotined around 10 am on January 21st 1793 on Place de La Révolution (Revolution Square) which was renamed Place de La Concorde in 1795 (read the whole story here). So guess where I went to take a photo last night?! It's not very good, but at least it's appropriate!

Joyeux ciquantième anniversaire Éric ! ! !
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Eric !!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Eric dahling! :D xxxxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous shot, I really adore this one - one of your best. Mwah!
A very fitting photo. The lights from the lamp posts look like candles burning atop a birthday cake baked specially for you.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Eric. A momentous day, indeed.
Joyeux anniversaire, Eric!!
ReplyDeleteAnd at least as many years ahead.
Who will think a second to Louis the XVIth today? Tell me? Everyone will only think of you!
Je t'embrasse.
Not very good? It's fabulous, and so are you dear Birthday Boy. Happy 50th.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!!
Happy Birthday!!!
This photo is FABULOUS, as are you. It looks as though everyone has come to la Place to celebrate!
Oh ! ! and another thing Eric, I found one or two shots of you in a few different countries and you may like to see yourself on Adelaide Daily Photo when you wake in the morning.
ReplyDelete(they are not those you have already seen).
Happy, Happy Birthday, cobber.
Yes Suzy, in fact I'm pretty sure that by the end of the day the crowd of us will have filled la place de la concorde.
ReplyDeleteBon anniversaire, Eric! I think it's a wonderful photo—and appropriate, as you say (at least for Louis). Glad you didn't try the perspective here. It's dangerous enough without that! I have a message for you on my blog, so I'll be back in six hours (when it's the 21st here) with a link. Meanwhile, hope you'll be having a big celebration --
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I’ll bet you are surprised that I could find a photo of your birthday cake. Fifty candles!
ReplyDeleteIt seems that many people have lost their heads over your blog.
Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteTall Gary,
ReplyDeleteYou are very creatif, but I think the candles, they will melt.
We must sing happy birthday before they are blown out !
There is nothing else to say but Bonne Anniversaire, Happy Birthday. I'm still going to sneak up on you...
ReplyDeleteOh, I don't know, I kind of like this shot!
ReplyDeleteHappy b'day Eric, and many more to come.
Happy birthday, Eric, and many more.
ReplyDeleteFeliz Cumpleanos Eric. Really 50? Damn you look good.
ReplyDeleteEric,
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday from Bangkok; I hope your day is filled with joy. Paris Daily Photo makes me smile every single day. Thanks for the lovely gift of your blog!
Birthday kisses again :) xx
ReplyDeleteIt's your birthday, Eric, and you make us a gift of this terrific photo.
ReplyDeleteA Happy Big Five-Oh to you and many, many more!
Happy Birthday from Sydney Eric. And like others, I'd also like to thank you for the reminder of Paris that you give to us every day. Have a wonderful day. P.S. I also love this photo - it's great.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteBonne Anniversaire Eric du Kentucky.
ReplyDelete50 est pas si mal.....
Joyeux anniversaire!
ReplyDeleteJoyeux anniversaire, et merci encore une fois de toutes vos photos!
ReplyDeleteAmicalement,
Marie
Eric, I hope your birthday is as joyous as are the days you bring us with PDP. And you're going to like being 50! I know, I've been 50 for years.
ReplyDeleteMonna said it best"thanks for the gift of your blog" and Cali noticed the birthday candles.
ReplyDeleteA most Happy Birthday from your Southwestern(not Carcassone)girlfriend.
.. bonne anniversaire, Eric. I like this photo. BTW: It is only an 'important' birthday if you use a base 10 number system, which is rather arbitrary. I just had an even more 'important' birthday myself. We have plenty to celebrate, fellow Capricorn.
ReplyDeleteA very Happy Birthday to you!!! Of course, you're fast asleep into the day after by now.....but hope that your day was a very special one.
ReplyDeleteOh I"m late. Pardon mon cher ami! I was squeezing into my trés chic dress just for your joyeux anniversaire! Pop one more cork pour moi!
ReplyDeleteAnd that photo is fab so don't apologize.
Salut Eric!
V
Have a wonderful Birthday Eric! Thank you for this awesome photo.
ReplyDeleteHope you've had a great birthday, Eric! Like others, I like this photo, too. It's perfect in B&W. (The reflections remind me of candles...on a cake :))
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! Thanks for brightening each day for me with your great photos. They bring back great memories of Paris for me every day!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Eric.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful photo.
Enjoy the day!
BONNE ANNIVAIRSAIRE, ERIC!!! I'm just getting to log on after work, so let me add my late best wishes. I hope your draining the last drops of your best champagne, that you don't have to go to work in the morning, and that you're dreaming of all the wonderful things you'll do now that you're 50 for the first time! (I agree with Petrea!) May all the joy you've given us come back to you a hundred times.
ReplyDeleteAnd, the photo is not so great??? Are you kidding us? I think its wonderful -- another home run. You do your city proud. Merci, merci.
So one man is beheaded on this day and one man is eating his cake. That's grand! Don't you just love Paris. Sounds like a joke is bubbling to get out from this one...hmmm, Marie Antoinette, cake...bread...no no, I'll let it go and just wish you the Greatest of Birthdays. Remember now that you're fifty, you must not blow out the cake and eat the candles, but ... ah, you'll figure it out. ;-) Cheers my man! We salute you.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday camera man
ReplyDeleteMay your birthday wish come true!
Many, many happy returns of the day. I'm glad you were born and even more glad you started a blog!
ReplyDeleteI like the photo. I think it's good. It looks nostalgic -- probably because you chose B&W. I love that Ferris wheel. It is a monster. I have never seen such a big Ferris wheel in my life. When I first saw it I was riding in a cab -- I almost didn't believe my eyes. I had to confirm with the cab driver what I was seeing. He said, Oh yeah, the Ferris wheel. Yeah, it's big alright. He sees it every day. Do you think if there was a big huge storm that it would blow over? Spooky :-s He said, no. It's okay -- don't worry.
ReplyDeleteMerci for the history of "Revolution Square". I love history.
Wishing you a wonderful birthday!

ReplyDeleteEric -- I left you a message on my blog.
ReplyDelete(Thanks for the suggestion, Petrea.)
Bisoux . . .
Did I suggest that? Oh for heaven's sake. When you've been 50 as long as I have, the memory starts to go.
ReplyDeleteHappy Happy Birthday Eric! I am so glad you were born! You are one of those special lights we all love to be around.
ReplyDelete& Thank you for inspiring us to create!

Happy Birthday Eric!! This is a fabulous photo! Thank you! Buon Compleano... that's Happy Birthday in Italian and Auguri, best wishes... it's as close (geographically speaking) to French as I can get...Anyway, from the United States, Colorado to be exact on a cold grey winter day I hope the sun is shinning on you on your special day!! Enjoy! Valorie
ReplyDeleteJoyeux anniversaire, Eric! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope that your birthday is as wonderful as your photos. Thanks a million for PDP and all the best for you! A birthday hug from Estonia is on the way!:)
All together now, the PDP choir will sing:
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday dear Eric,
Happy birthday to you!
Yes, welcome to the Over Fifties Club Eric. Some of the benefits of membership include:
-Things you buy now never wear out.
-You can sing along with elevator music.
- You can live without sex (but not without glasses).
- Membership also entitles you to a little nap in the afternoons. However, you can no longer refer to this as a 'power nap'- it's your age, dear!
Seriously, have a great birthday!
PS-Anyone who actually DID sing along is probably over fifty as well.
Happy Birthday I frequently start my day here in Colorado looking at your work and drinking a cup of coffee. So Cheers!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a glorious day and many, MANY wonderful years to come. Thanks for meeting us at the Café Brebant last week...you are a kind soul and the blogging community adores you...
ReplyDeleteSalut Eric!
Happy Birthday Eric!! I hope you have a fantastic day!
ReplyDeleteHilarious Drummond!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Eric! Feliz Aniversário!
ReplyDeletelol Drummond! - oops yes I sang along. I agree with all that you said there :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo, Eric! Hope you're having the Happiest Birthday today!
ReplyDeleteAnd aren't you glad you don't have to follow in Louis XVI's steps today? :)
Happy Birthday Eric, I have enjoyed your photos of Paris for a long time.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your wonderful work.
So fabulous, Eric!
ReplyDeleteDrummond I DID and I'm still under fifty (ooops sorry, Drummond ;)). But you know a niece of mine told with a sweet wink (really sweety) to her father, the day of his fifty : "That's not too bad Dad. You know, at forty, you were already old ;)".
Stunning photo, though I'm sure it looks a bit different than the day Louix XVI last saw it! Et bon anniversaire!
ReplyDeleteHappy, happy birthday on this cold grey day in Paris. Your shot is spectacular! Who watches your back when you stand in the middle of the street being so creative?
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Eric. Many happy returns.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone. Don't go thinking I ignore you! I'm just still at the office and now on my way to a dinner (no, not a B-day dinner party, but a work dinner!)
ReplyDeleteSee you in a bit.
What a lovely message from Océane!
ReplyDeleteDrummond -- I sang too, but I've been turning 50 for a while now.
Wouldn't it be funny if Eric's "work dinner" turned out to be a big surprise party? Actually, that would be perfect.
A work dinner with you would never be a work dinner! Too bad I don't work with you, do I?
ReplyDeleteDid I tell you Happy birthday today ? Hmm, ah yes, true! But one more - just in case you'd forgotten ;)
Happy Birthday Eric, yahoo I am the 100th commentator
ReplyDeleteJoyeux ciquantième anniversaire Éric ! ! !

Bon anniversaire! Vous êtes maintenant sur la colline....
ReplyDeleteWhich means you can now make inappropriate jokes, be late without excuse and start sentences with "I remember when....."!
Enjoy your day...
Sean
