Paris on ice?

Thursday, January 07, 2010 Posted by Eric Tenin

I'll be honest, I don't know exactly what this is, but when I came back home today on my scooter, I was freezing so much that I immediately thought of ice "cubes" when I saw this. "This", precisely belongs to a tarpaulin that hides a facade while they're working on it in l'Avenue de l'Opéra. The weather is getting colder and colder and it is very likely we will have snow tomorrow (like most of Northern Europe - and the UK in particular!) apparently . I'll save some time to take photos for you ;-) BTW. Someone had the idea of creating a birthday page on Facebook (no, not for PDP yet...) for the author of this blog...

I love this! It does make me think of ice and snow.
A birthday page for you is a great idea! Let me mark my calendar.

The triangle shapes look like graffiti writing to me!
Hard to imagine such cold weather while I enjoy this sunny AZ weather, (giggle).
Haven't been to the Facebook site yet, so is it time to wish you Happy Birthday yet?????

Do let us know what gets unveiled! It is rather chilly-looking.

I'm hoping there is cake for this special birthday...

I like it when they cover up works in progress with something decorative like this—thanks for capturing it for us. Looks like you might have to get back in the dreaded metro, eh?
    Love the birthday page!

I love that the French had interesting covers for their construction projects!! No orange plastic and ugly barriers for them! Tres Manifique!

The way things are going, PDP will celebrate its 50th anniversary one day too...

The "ice cubes" have the shape of a slice of pizza and they have clouds inside of it. It is so "Lucy in the sky with diamonds" ;)

Lovely camouflage for construction plus a bit of protection for the workers as well. Looking forward to some snow photos. Do you scoot in the snow? I don't but know a few people who are crazy enough to do so. I value my Vespa too much to take the chance.

Happy birthday, Eric! Wish I could join the virtual party, but I still don't have a FB account. It sure looks fun though!

Hmmm… pieces of sky in shards — reminds me of the Superman movies.

The blue in this photo is so vivid it resembles how I feel this morning...icy cold!

Hilda you can still join the party! Just click on Eric's link...

This might be inspired by the blue triangle of the EDF "Blue Sky" advert...? So maybe these are EDF (Electricité de France) offices behind this tarpaulin !?

I'm not sure I get this... I'll be interested to hear what they're doing underneath. A shop that sells fragments of sky perhaps? Please don't let it be a mobile phone shop...

Museums here in the US often take the trouble to create something interesting to look at whilst work is going on behind a barrier. This one truly does suggest ice cubes.

Re: comment box on Jan. 6

Oops! I must be in denial. I majored in literature & hate politicians for their being way too diplomatic, if not hypocritical.

    Thanks for confirming, Eric.

I too think there's something to see with électricité de france. A picture of "électrisé"?
