Paris in the snow
It did not snow much inside Paris today, but enough to cover the streets (here le Boulevard des Italiens, right were the Olympia hall is) and make them slippery. It's funny to hear people talk about this bad weather as if it was exceptional. In fact, it's pretty common at this time of the year; I looked at last year's January 8th PDP photo and saw this... (not to mention the one of January 11th...). FYI, according to the Paris.fr site, there are on average only 15 snowy days per year in Paris (60 in NYC!) so it's easy to cope with them.

Somehow your picture brings out the bright and cheery side to all that frigid weather. I wanna be there!
ReplyDeleteMr. PHX just saw the picture over my shoulder and said"THAT'S Paris???????
ReplyDeleteI just love the coloring in this one. I hope you are on the ground by choice! Looks slippery.
ReplyDelete*waves to PHX-CDG*
Brrr! I like the look that guy is giving you, as if to say "Duude, what are you doing on the ground taking photos?" (Or however he'd say that in French.) Where are all the shoppers -- didn't the big sales just start?
ReplyDeleteI couldn't help but notice the man's body language myself.
ReplyDeleteNice shot Eric.
Your first link reminds me of a very popular shot of Manhattan's Central Park in the snow.
Yours is beautiful as well.
Very pretty shot Eric! The Tenin perspective even in the snow, I'm so impressed. The man on the right looks a bit bemused lol.
ReplyDeleteI enlarged this picture and love the light. i believe Pissaro did a painting of Blvd. des Italiens int he snow. Also nice to see the Olympia -- the site of many performances I have listened to over the years.
ReplyDeleteP.S. - I think you should copyright the "Tenin Perspective."
beautiful
ReplyDeleteThat's a great shot!
ReplyDeleteWow, Eric, what weather we're having! I'm out in the suburbs, in Tournan-en-Brie (like the cheese) at the moment, and we had about 30 centimetres of snow and everything is looking great! Wish I could get some snowy shots of Paris like this one though...
ReplyDeleteI love this pic! A friend of mine in Melun posted videos on FB of the snow at 4am this morning. Good contrasts!
ReplyDeleteDid you slip and took advantage of that to take the photo or was The Tenin perspective intentional?!
ReplyDelete;)
So, did you ride your scoot today?
ReplyDeleteI like this picture.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a child, the day it snows like this, I wanted to go out, play in the snow with my friends, but now, on a snowy day like this, I would rather stay home.
Take care, the road is slippery. :9
Snow looks so much more colorful in Paris (at least from the Tenin point of view). Here's it's monochromatic...
ReplyDeleteOh how we love the famous Tenin perspective! The guy on the right does look a bit suspicious though. I'm surprised to learn that we get an average of 60 days of snow here in NYC—who knew?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great shot!! I love photos like this that give that slice of life "a ce moment" outlook on things..perfect!
ReplyDeleteThat's so nice! You know how we love the Tenin perspective (can't you see that in some photography textbook someday?) and this shot is lovely.
ReplyDeleteBut...that's not much snow...at least not for here. I found out today that Petoskey gets almost 5 times the US average for snowfall in a year, usually averaging in the neighborhood of 125 inches. And last year we had very close to 5 full months of snow on the ground.
Oh, to be in Paris!
wow you had snow and i had 71 degree weather. i like yours better. i know...i know...it could be worse here in so. cal, but a little brrrrr would be nice. i love the the red sign makes things look pinkish ;-)
ReplyDeleteNice shot Eric ! For an accurate localization, you're on the Bld des Capucines ;-)
ReplyDeleteEric, I can FEEL Paris in this photo. It's like a semi-quiet moment captured on a lovely Paris street. Thank you for this gift. :)
ReplyDeleteI thought to myself yesterday that last year and this year we've had much snow than the years before.
ReplyDeleteI remember precisely years without any snow at all in Paris.
I also remember years with such a nice perspective in life too. Ohhh why am i negative today?
What am I feeling about 2010? Work and work and ? work and ? work and ? Ok I even don't have the right to complain about that because I have to think of those who have not this opportunity of a job. Slice of life.
Beautiful photo. :-)
ReplyDeleteMost streets have been cleaned overnight, so driving in Paris was OK this morning... at least much better than yesterday!
ReplyDeleteAnd the light is great ;-)
Is the bright red tree in the background lit by lights - or is that just from the glow around it? No matter, it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNice snow...we had a bit last week and I crave more.
Mmm...it's wonderful! I want to be there!
ReplyDeleteI'm SORRY for my negative mood today. I wanted to tell it -- so please erase this bad thought from here. Here is place for fun, friendly people and dream.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful, I sometimes dream of snow and wearing a coat again. lol
ReplyDeleteI love the way you get down into it for this image. In Vermont we average about 15 snowy days a month.
ReplyDeleteMonica, you beat me to it. I reckon Eric was strolling along, camera in hand, when suddenly - whooosh- he slipped on the snow landed on his derriere, accidentally pressed the shutter, et voila! PDP! That's why the guy is looking round and thinking "Eric, drunk again!"
ReplyDeleteNow I come to think about it, is it possible that the famous Tenin perspective could be drink or drug related?
No, of course not. How could I even consider such a thing. Shame on me.
Océane, what is very funny is that I sometimes dream of laying down under a big and warm SUN without any coat.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous : You made me smile. I often think like you, work, work and work. Anyone who wants to do mine while I'll go for a drink with Eric?
A beautifully atmospheric shot, Eric ~ my nose feels cold and wet for some strange reason...
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm with Flore! Most days in the months of December through April, I dream of going outside without a coat on and sitting in the sunshine and letting the sun's warmth just soak into my bones. Ahhh...what a lovely dream.
ReplyDeleteFlore, you're Eric's drinking companion?
ReplyDeleteMmm..perhaps my theory has some substance after all.
Shell, do you ever have dreams about having someone throw a stick for you to fetch?
My son and I were there last January and there were several days with snow. He stayed for three months and the icy days proved a problem for the city too.
ReplyDeleteLOL Drummond. No, not yet. If I was, that'd be champagne.
ReplyDeleteBut I also could fall asleep pretty quickly in his arms after that, so tired I am today.
Here you go, the Tenin's perspective again!
ReplyDelete15 days of snow in Paris, maybe, but it never stays on the sidewalk more than a few hours, or a day maximum, and I miss the snow battles of my childhood so much!!
Let it snow, let it snow!
You have a nice page i like it.
ReplyDeleteVisit my page http://regaiawer.blogspot.com/ (It is in german but you can look at the pictures) :)
I am discovering your blog with pleasure! Bambi
ReplyDeleteGuille, according to the reports, you should be satisfied Saturday (tomorrow) and Sunday !!
ReplyDeleteYou should come here, Guille; I have 5" - and more coming on Sunday!
ReplyDeleteSnow. Sheesh. I cleared 4" last night when I got home. That's on top of the...oh, never mind.
ReplyDeleteI do love the Olympia aura. When there in 2008, Katia brought us to a cafe on the next block, after walking through the crowd waiting for Madonna to show up at the Olympia.
Haven't commented or contributed tot he birthday site yet. This weekend. I trust M. PDP is not offended and knows I'm wishing him the best.
What size tyres are on the scooter? I think at this rate we are going to have to chip in and get some snow chains for your wheels as I know Paris doesn't have any snow clearing equipment!
ReplyDeleteSean
LOL Drummond!
ReplyDeleteI live in New York City and although we're having a really cold winter this year and snow, there are many years when we only get a few days of it. I don't believe for a second that we get an annual average of 60 days of snow here. We certainly get more light than Paris does in the winter, however. In the winter, a lower latitude has its privileges.
ReplyDeleteEric, the one you put today is gorgeous (Louvre pyramid in grey and blue), but in this one I love the combination of "hot" and "cold" colors. Congratulations! As other people have said, I'm beginning to like the idea of going to Paris in winter.
ReplyDeleteI recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
