The ice age...
Need I say more? I took this shot Friday in one of the sidewalk gutters (look at this photo, I took in 2006 if you want to know more about our water system). It was -13 C (8.6 F) apparently on that day, so no wonder water turns into ice ;) It's the Russian's fault they said on television (the cold air comes from Siberia!). I just had a look at the weather forecast though and it looks like things will change next week. This might be the last icy photo of the season on PDP!

You see! You see! I told you it was cold! Thank you for this evidence Eric!
ReplyDeleteLet's hope it's the last icy photo of the season Eric. Albeit a good one, I'd rather see the Paris Plage any day!
ReplyDeleteWOW!! That sure does look cold. Makes me shiver just looking at it, even though we've been freezing here in England, it hasn't got down that low. Yikes!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful shot Eric and one I've been trying to get all week! You succeeded where I failed. I especially like the blue tinge to it. It certainly has been cold for us, huh. Michael: Brr! GF Your crown will be made of cashmere, no doubt or at least something VERY warm?
ReplyDeleteYou're right Sue I think our lowest was -11. No wonder Michael has been in a state of shock. lol.
ReplyDeleteCashmere? No way! I've installed a full-blown heater on that crown this time. And no woosy blankets from Suzy either!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Ok then, full-blown heater it is. Is it heavy on your poor, cold head?
ReplyDeleteLiked the nostalgia link of yesterday by the way.
I'm done with winter. I declare it over. You can expect warm sunny weather any day now, so hopefully that heater is only temporarily fixed to the crown.
ReplyDeleteWow—I'm shivering just looking at this (or maybe it's because I just came back from taking pictures all day in the snow). At any rate, brrrr!
ReplyDeleteEric, your shot reminds me of the glacier in Greenland—it's blue, too.
Congrats on GF, Michael.
Minus 13 C?!!! Damn, that's cold!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so glad I didn't plan on visiting at that time of the year! :) I know the plane tickets are cheaper but my California clothes clearly don't cut it for that kind of weather and I got rid of my thick winter coats and shoes a long time ago.
Oh, yeah, that's true, I wonder how Michael is coping. California is downright cold compared to Florida weather, no? ;)
ReplyDeleteThis morning when I was waiting for the coffee to brew, my thermometer outside my kitchen window said +7 F. That has been normal all week. It did rise to +20 F today.
ReplyDeleteI do feel sorry for you. This cold stinks. By the way, most of our taxi drivers here are from Somalia, Ethiopia, and other equatorial nations. Can you imagine their first winter here? I always tell them I feel sorry for what they went through that first winter.
Hi people!
ReplyDeleteI've just returned from my trip to Paris in one of its coldest winters ever. And man, it was awesome! There was snow and frost everywhere which makes everything look so serene and beautiful, especially at Champs de Mars. All the fountains and ponds at Versailles were also frozen solid.
Things weren't as cold when I touched down in mid-December, in fact, it was around 10 degrees Celsius which was a tad warm for me; I had to take off my scarf while walking on the streets in the afternoon. However, just a few days later, the Siberian wind started its 'campaign' in Paris and soon the whole city turned into a winter wonderland!
I had wished for a white Paris before departure and I guess my wish was granted!
Brrrr - it's cold in here!!! The waterfalls shot explains the huge chunks of ice.
ReplyDeleteI just got home and logged on, and I was thinking that my fingers are so cold (it's 61 degrees here in Los Angeles), but after I saw this, I won't complain :)
It is so funny how cold is relative to different people. I'm thinking it is warmish here today because it is in the mid 20's and Pont Girl thinks it's cold in the 60's! It's all what you're used to, I guess.
ReplyDeleteEric, I hope that it warmed up enough so that you didn't have to ride the metro again and that the snow and ice will once again be a historic memory for you. Stay warm until the weather changes! :)
I don't think I've ever been anywhere that cold! As a Southern Californian my idea of chilly is 60 F! Brrrr - but it looks LOVELY.
ReplyDeleteWell it's all the damn Russian's fault isn't it? Made for some fab photos, Eric.
ReplyDeleteWe say "Blame Canada." You say "Blame Russia" (now you need a song too).
ReplyDeleteROFL! One of the best songs ever!
ReplyDeleteSorry you're so cold, Eric. I don't know how you hold the camera still! But thanks for doing it anyway.
ReplyDeleteOne can only dream. wouldn't an early Spring be nice Eric?
ReplyDeleteHi Eric! Oh my goodness. I am leaving for Paris this coming Sunday and I fear the cold weather!! You mentioned weather was going to change this coming week? Do keep us all posted!!
ReplyDeleteYes Tomate, you're right. California is cold compared to Florida. All that ocean and you can't even swim in it too!
ReplyDeleteMrs. Jackie T. - one of the best sites to watch the weather in Paris is Meteo-Paris. It gives a range of temperatures for the Paris area, with the first number being closer to the suburbs and the 2nd being Paris itself. Also a comparison of the difference with the seasonal average.
Wow, you weren't kidding Eric! Hope you have a nice Mediterranean thaw soon. Miguel...you are the ice man cometh with that crown. Congrats Mistah Florida! :-)
ReplyDeleteColtrane - Thanks. As far as I'm concerned, ice is for iced tea! (that'll get the Brits going won't it?!)
ReplyDeleteWOW this certainly looks like Siberia.
ReplyDeleteGood shot, you really makes us feel cold.
Ok I see...
ReplyDeleteColtrane is right, you weren't kidding! That's frozen!
Anyway, you know, whatever the weather is, the most important is to keep warm the heart.
With PDP, even an iced sculpture in a sidewalk gutter may blow some heat! Might it be the same for you Eric.
Iced TEA?? Yes you know how to press my buttons Michael. lol. No you need a kettle, a little brewing time on that tea, a dash of milk and a tad of sugar. Iced tea my ar....are you convinced that a good hot cup of tea will do you better in this weather Michael?
ReplyDeleteMy paternal grandmother - God bless her soul, she died in 1970! - also used to think that extreme weather was all Russia's fault. She used to say: C'est à cause de tous ces Spoutniks!.
ReplyDeleteSeems to me that this ice age is a byproduct, ironically enough, of global warming.
From Western PA, where we got about six inches of snow yesterday (GO STEELERS!!!!)
Frozen greetings from the Boston area, where we have had snow, ice, snow on top of ice, rain, rain on top of snow on top of ice...you get the idea! Folks in my area were without power for 12 twelve days recently and lots of us are very seriously looking for a warm place to relocate to. (I HAD been thinking Paris would be an improvement over New England winters, but now I have doubts.)
ReplyDeleteI went to Paris Plage last August and the photos and memories are great for warming up on (another) snowy day.
Best wishes to all - stay warm and dry!
It is eye catching and creative . The blue tinge is a magical touch.
ReplyDeleteICED TEA???!!! ICED TEA????!!!!
ReplyDeleteno thankyou very much. A nice cup of medium strength, skimmed milk & half a teaspoon of sugar will do nicely. Cheers............
Thank you Sue. lol.
ReplyDeleteI simply meant to say that the only thing I have use for when it comes to ice was iced tea. Not now, now way. A good bowl of soup or hot coffee would be nice, but not that brown water tea stuff. Ugggg
ReplyDeleteLovely ice blue color...I didn't see some much ice in my area.
ReplyDeleteThe Canal Saint Martin is totally frozen, that's really beautiful (could be a nice photo Eric! Then you could stop at the pub! ;) ). But people threw their Xmas trees on the ice... I still wonder why!
Oh how I wish it was the last icy photo in my world. But not really ... it's cold outside but I'm inside and it's a gorgeous view from here.
ReplyDeletewow, it reminds me my holidays in ... Iceland :)
ReplyDeleteBrown..water..tea..STUFF? Lynn demanded in a 'handbag' way?
ReplyDeleteRespectfully disagree, Michael. Ice is not for ice-tea, it's for cocktails! ;)
ReplyDeleteWell Lynn, Michael's obviously never had a cup of the good old English Rosie Lee. Maybe if he hopped across the channel I'm sure we could oblige ;).
ReplyDeleteLynn, I see Man In Garbage Can is on zazzle. Have you ordered yet? Maybe the fridge magnet for when you take the courgettes out of the fridge, hehe.
ReplyDeleteI hope it warms up a bit, as we arrive on Monday the 12th and this California girl does not like the cold :-) Nice pic, Eric!
ReplyDeleteWe have 8degrees here in Kent tonight. Phew!! Scorchio!!
ReplyDeletehe he Scorchio! Sue I just may be the only one who gets that ref.
ReplyDeleteOh yes Sue we could teach him a thing or two ;) LOL
Michael I've left a message for you over at mine.
Those who've never tried a good, strong iced tea are missing out. One can enjoy iced tea as well as hot tea. Horizons expanded!
ReplyDeletehe he only kidding Petrea. I'm sure it is a refreshing drink on a hot day. Not to be a substitute for hot tea though I think! Especially of no use to Michael in these climes! lol.
ReplyDeleteThank you for that tip, Michael :)
