Wall of wine at the Café Moderne

Funny coincidence today: I had all my meals in restaurants located 40 rue Notre Dame des Victoires, near La Bourse. La brasserie Gallopin at lunch and le Café Moderne at dinner!I found this wall of wine in the second one (le Café Moderne) where I had a really good meal with a friend I had not seen in years. We both went for the 5 - small - course special, where you get to taste a little bit of the chef's specialties. Really nice. If you go, book one of the tables on the right hand side of the restaurant, much quieter that the other ones...

  4. I love it. I love the alternation in the bottles of wine, which one can only assume would be quite tasty. The slight depth of field is great too!

  9. Lovely shot, Eric, not to mention the thoughtful seating tips. The engineering of a wine bottle is quite amazing - that its weight can be held by the neck - or is it an exercise in great trust!

  10. This reminds me of the song:

100 bottles of wine on the wall,
    100 bottles of wine,
Take one down, pass it around,
99 bottles of beer on the wall.

(repeat until sufficiently drunk :-) )

Hey Eric, maybe you could bring Maty here for dinner! Hee hee.

  13. Eric, did you manage to eat in piece without people wanting your autograph and asking you to take their photo?

That day is coming dear Eric, sooner than you think...

  18. The angle gives a slight giddy effect. Rather appropriate. :) I love the idea of having a sampling of many meals. Food and wine - such a pleasure!

  19. Eric

Is the photo at an odd angle because you'd drunk a couple of the bottles already?

    Seriously, nice shot.

  20. That is how the CO2 bottles are locked in place in what we call the doghouse, in the airplane.
How clever to use this concept for an artistic display of wine. It certainly is modern looking!

  21. Wonder why it's called the doghouse Phx?
In English the doghouse means you're in trouble. i.e. "I'm really in the doghouse now!"

  22. Coltrane, you beat me to it on the joke, darn you. Apologize? "Well, You Needn't."

Slick design, chic industrial. Might be a good option for dinner in May.

  23. Doghouse has the same connotation on this side of the pond, too, but it is because of the shape of the container that the CO2 lives in.....again, you made me think . I've looked, but I didn't "see", or should I say , pay attention, until now.

  24. Future travelers: Look behind the last row of seats,if you want to see an airplane doghouse. ASK to peer inside if you want to see the contraption that this clever Frenchperson made into his own for wine.

  25. Jeff...like your jazz reference my friend. Good tune. I'll have the guys call it up next time for you. Yeah, great minds (albeit deviant minds, ahem) think alike. LOL!
