Snow alert (part II)

I know you're going to say you already saw one of these Maillol sculptures covered in snow 2 days ago... But to be honest I really hesitated between the last one and this one (if you noticed, you can almost see the Eiffel Tower in the background in this one) and since I heard we have a good chance of snowfall today (Monday) again, I thought I could post a second one... Besides, judging from your comments last time, I think you will enjoy it too. Not to mention it's a peaceful way of starting the year! Have I made enough excuses?!

  1. That's one cool, dare I say, frigid lady. She doesn't seem to mind.

  2. Yep you have. lol. Wow so you really got in close on this girl huh? Her snow dress is gossamer thin too! he he. We still have snow! More than that too! he he couldn't help boasting. We're pathetically excited by snow in France and England, as you see. Blush.

  3. It does seem that this lady is wearing a chapeau, so perhaps snow is okay with her.

Eric, we've enjoyed reading PDP while being in Paris as well as when we're home. Thank you for all your efforts in spreading good will and making a community. We feel honored to have met Guille.

  4. Snow on Paris! What a nice way to start again!

    Happy New Year, my friends!

  5. Beautiful! I love how you can just make out the ET in the distance. We haven't had any snow here in Virginia yet.

  6. I'm madly jealous!! We have no snow here in Kent. Maybe I will wake up to a few inches tomorrow....whaaat?

  9. That's fine with me Eric. :) I mean, the framing is different and that's nice to see it in color too.

It will snow tomorrow, it will snow tomorrow!

Lupine Lady, did you leave? You were still here two days ago (I saw you passing by the pub ;) )! I hope you had a nice trip.

Thib is back! Happy new year Thib!

We're getting snow in Seattle again as I write this.

  11. It's nice to visit your blog and see something so peaceful.
It looks like the snowy weather we are having in NYC lately.

I love your beautiful city and can't wait to return.

  12. Love the angle in which you've taken this photo Eric.. with the position of the statues hand, it leads the eye up to blurried ET! Another lovely photograph!

    btw,It appears that she is wearing her "thinking" cap only!(lol) and for some reason the statue reminds me of a poem;
Gay Strephon declares I'm the girl in his mind,
If he proves sincere, I'll be constant and kind,
He vows that tomorrow he'll make me his wife,
I'll fondly endeavour to believe him for life,
For all other swains I care not a rush,
One bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

  14. Speaking of the Eiffel Tower, has it reverted back to its normal color? I'm assuming the blue is gone now. It was interesting to see for a while.

  15. Ooh this is another wonderful photo of the Maillol sculpture. I wonder if Mailol's studio was freezing and the only way the model would agree to pose nude was to wear a hat. It doesn't exactly match her outfit. Amazing how much cold and snow Paris is having; I wish you an early Spring!

Guille - Lupine Lady has one more day in Paris then they return home on Tuesday. I'm sure she'll be very sad to go, but at least I'll get to finally see all her photos! I'm so thrilled that you all got to meet. Too funny that you saw them walking by the pub!

  16. What - there aren't any male statues in the Louvre gardens? ;)

Yep, Brandon, ET is back to normal. I think it changed midnight Jan. 1st.

  17. Thank you for a window on Paris. Your photos and commentaries have hit the right note with me. We visited last September and loved the city.

  18. Lupine Lady, have a great trip. It is always a pleasure (and an honor) to meet Reine Guillemette 1ere.

Tomate: I was going to do the exact same thing with a stuttering Eiffel Tower. Either we're both brilliant or you are crazy, too!

Love all the Maillol pieces. No excuses needed.

  19. Another beauty, Eric. She's perky.

Sue and Lynn: I heard that.

  20. Jardin des Tuileries? Oh one of my favorite places. She is lovely with the dusting of snow . Very peaceful, like we all hope our world will be one day, oui? Your post yesterday was timely . Merci.

  21. Part I or II, doesn't matter...I love them both. More snow on the way too, eh? Well, you're camera sure takes to the white fluff. I know MN Jeff won't want to hear this, but here in the southern Midwest (near KC), all of our snow has melted. Of course, as soon as I say this, a northern front will come marching through, and I'll have to get out my camera for the wintery shots. It's only a matter of time. In any case, I enjoy this photo as well, but the poor lady does look a tad chilly. lol

  22. You know Petrea, perky is what I was thinking too. Unbelievably perky. But that's why we have artists.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Exactly, UsElaine and Petrea, I'm wondering if we were to mock up a similar live photo, say standing in the garden (I have snow at the moment) would it be that perky? Hmm... snigger...Petrea we might have got away with only you listening, I think!

  24. In fact, I'm just pulling on my wellies now to venture outside. The snow is firmly on the ground. I may be gone some time... expect pictures. No, not that sort!! I'm not doing it alone anyway. There. I've thrown out a challenge.

  25. We have snow!! Not the few inches I hoped for, maybe just the one, but hey, anything's better than nothing. As the actress said to the bishop..........

    ReplyDelete
  26. A beautiful shot Eric, but I imagine she is much whiter now after the snow we're having. I expect another wonderful photo tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  27. he he Sue! Good things come in small packages. Just keep saying it over and over to ourselves. It might ring true.

  28. Lynn - Good things come to those that wait....;-)

  29. This is a lovely photo.
I really like these Maillol sculptures in the context of the Louvre gardens. The timing is also perfect with all the snow we are currently having. A real treat.

Moreover, I'm planning to go to the Maillol museum today. My girlfriend (who teaches) doesn't know this museum yet. So she is going to!

That's really nice to check PDP what I do very often. But first time I'm commenting!!!

  30. Guille, yes, we walked by the pub the other evening, but it was really too late to stop in. We have one more day and leave early Tuesday morning. It will be wonderful to share our photos with Katie. We're very lucky to have seen the rare snow on the ground. I even saw 2 tiny snowmen.

  31. What a beautiful shot. When I was eighteen or so, I went in Paris and discovered all of this beauty! A great city.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You say, "Wish list (of photos!) welcome." PLEASE take a photograph of the eiffel tower in the snow Eric. It would be so wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  33. lol Sue, yes I suppose the grass is always greener on the other side. ...sigh...

  34. I am beginning to wonder if there is a Part III to this series. Will tomorrow bring this lady's lower half into focus? We must brace ourselves.

    ReplyDelete
  35. But you don't need excuses. This is a perfect photo for today, for all the reasons you mentioned and more...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Pffff, c'que tu peux etre consensuel parfois Eric ! LOL

  37. lol. Talking of wishlist, Eric...can I put in a request of ladies WITH clothes? lol! I would just like to see some fashion; what the ladies of Paree are wearing these days, just people in the street now and then? I saw a really stunning lady in Paris at The Sartorialist blog just the other day and it reminded me to ask you.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Or men in fashion, too of course. Men are always good! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  39. From Cali: By the way, yes there is at least one that I know of! Eric, it's on the right hand side of the main alley as you walk down towards the Louvre, with the Champs in your back (since we all know you have nothing better to do than go chase statues around for the blog ;)

  40. Ahhh...2009! The year I finally get back to Paris. The countdown begins! Love this icy lady, Eric.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thanks for the info, Tomate. If Eric is unable to provide a photo perhaps I will be fortunate enough to see it in person this year.

Ohhhh, the Eiffel Tower in snow would be so nice to see. Is it still snowing??? I guess I could check out the webcam!

  43. Marie "You say, "Wish list (of photos!) welcome." PLEASE take a photograph of the Eiffel tower in the snow Eric. It would be so wonderful." Well, er... There was no snow on the ET tonight, sorry ;)

(And yes, it went back to its normal color: dark brown)

Lynn there may be a Part III (actually I took a new interesting photo this morning), but there was something more interesting in the news for tonight, so you'll have to wait! As for your wish list "A lady with clothes" What for LOL?

GG "Pffff, c'que tu peux etre consensuel parfois Eric ! " you crack me up!

PHX! You won't see a photo of snow tonight, but I must say I wanted to go to the Luxembourg gardens but I thought they would close it (they close all gardens when it snows generally. Not I regret it!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Awwwm c'mon, Eric, grant Marie her wish. You never said the wish had to be possible!

Wonderful photos over the last few days, dear friend!

  45. I'm to the point where I can't believe there are people in the world that still want snow. We've had snow on the ground for 6 weeks now, and I'm ready for it to be gone. Only about 16 more weeks to go before it will be gone here! And then,....Spring! (I received my first gardening catalog the other day, so Spring Fever is beginning to set in already!)

For everyone else, enjoy whatever snow comes your way!

    ReplyDelete
  46. lol Eric. I just saw ET in snow! On Euronews. Must have fallen when your back was turned on way home lol.
Okay I'm waiting for Part III now.

  47. Hello Edouard! Feel free to jump in! It's pretty much open forum around here ;)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hello and thank you Tomate. I always enjoy reading your witty comments!

I'll jump in from time to time ; you are all so nice and welcoming, that's true!

The Maillol museum did not disappoint my girlfriend. The collections of Maillol sculptures and paintings are really worthseeing together. I was amazed by the number of drawers among the public there (some of them caught a painting in a few seconds, really impressive). Talentuous!
    A bientôt.
