Here you go... This one was called Gare d'Orsay at night and I took it last January, when the weather was a bit cloudy. I remember thinking, "gee it really looks like a painting", and it does! There were other photos I could have picked instead of this one, so especially for you, here they are! Have a nice year everyone! And don't forget, today, everyone in the City Daily photo community will post his/her best photo of the yeat, so don't miss it!
I do remember this and it is still a favorite of mine. Just lovely. Thanks for all your hard work.
ReplyDeleteThis one is one of my favorites too! It was my backgound on my computer for quite a while...
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year everyone!
Definitely one of my favorites!! I love the colors reflected on the water.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
What a gorgeous photo! I love it!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely one of your best shots ever Eric. The others are great too, but this one is truly special.
ReplyDeleteIt's still 4pm here on the west coast of the USA, so an early new years wish to all!
It's a beauty Eric. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteIt is good but in a classic way which is not in my eyes what makes you special.

Happy New Year, Eric! This is magic.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me think of Simenon's Inspector Maigret......for some reason.....mysterious, eerie...
ReplyDeleteand utterly, totally cool. Merci, Eric! Bonne année, bonne santé, le paradis à la fin de vos jours.
Thank you again Eric. It IS still on my desktop (well, it's on about half of them, as an admin I have several. I found it a neat way to signify that I was on my account remotely). I still get compliments and questions about it and I direct them to your site. Happy new year, looking forward to another 365 great Parisian pictures. No pressure on you Eric.
ReplyDeleteIs my favourite of all... I still have it as my background picture in my computer...
ReplyDeleteGF Cali...go girl!
My wishes to everyone for a healthy, happy and peaceful New Year. PDP is such a bright spot in my day - you're a lovely, wonderful group of people! May Eric's infectious positivity (don't let your countrymen talk you out of it, Eric!) keep spreading around the world this year.
ReplyDeleteSuzieM - I love the saying at the end of your post - is it a common French salutation or is that all yours?!
Eric I have always loved this photo - romantic, dramatic and painterly. Its on my desktop, too.
Bonne annee!(Fireworks: *********)
I apologize for not wishing everyone Happy New Year before the clock hit 12 in your homes. I've been trying to plan a visit to Europe. I might...MIGHT just be able to tack on a couple days in Paris. It looks good so far. I've been on the computer or the phone all day just looking for flights. Haven't even figured out hotels yet. But, this is my excuse for forgetting all my friends around the world until now: it's almost 2 am now in Paris. Happy New Year!! I imagine Guille is potted in Oslo, n'est-ce pas? I raise a toast to you all!
ReplyDeleteOh: yes, this is one of the best photos. (I'm partial to the Musee d'Orsay, however.)
Bonne année to all PDPers. May 2009 see you in good health and happiness...
ReplyDelete...And give us another 365 great Paris photos ;-)
Eric, once again, thank you for all the time you spend for us!
This is such a fabulous dramatic Paris photo Eric! Great choice for your "Best Of" post. The clouds really add to the overall painterly quality; I love the blue ET light managing to find a way through the thick clouds.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year PDPers! I was really lucky to meet so many of you in person in 2008. Here's to lots more PDP meetups in 2009!
I have this photo framed 0n my den wall and it gives me much pleasure. It does look like a painting.Thank you for taking it aqnd posting it again. Lori L
ReplyDeletetous très beaux
ReplyDeleteBonne année to all PDPers! They started fireworks in my neighborhood in San Francisco about a half hour ago. Can't wait for 2009:-) I guess.
ReplyDeleteCali, you got New Year's Eve GF. That's a special one. Have a wonderful night California Girl.
Eric, I love this photo. I bought it from you on Zazzle and hung it up in my cube. Merci for taking so much time out of your life for your PDPers. You are a treasure. And your photos...what can I say that has not already been said?
Yes this is really painterly. I love it too. Happy New Year! xx
ReplyDeleteEric, you're a treasure. Lois got it right.
ReplyDeleteI can pick out the spot on the balcony where John and I stood and gazed out over the Seine toward Sacre Coeur. This photo brings back memories. But even if it didn't, it's a magnificent shot.
The lighting is to perfection. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI agree and Happy New Year! Great shot Eric! I've had this as my screensaver and have received numerous compliments from my colleagues. Beautiful man.
ReplyDeleteI only discovered your blog earlier this year and although I don't post too often, I check in regularly to see your photos and read your interesting posts. Your favorite photo of the year is just beautiful! Thanks for showing us the beautiful Paris - and also some of the funny and odd parts too! I like it all.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Eric. It is a lovely photo and it does remind me of a painting. The lighting is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThanks for choosing this as your best photo of the year, Eric. It is such a pleasure to see it again as the daily photo.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!! It is now officially 2009 here in Michigan and Eric, that IS a lovely picture. I must admit one of your "honorable mentions" was my favorite, the Bastille Day shot makes me want to visit Paris during that time.
ReplyDeleteBest Wishes to all and may you have a Happy New Year!
Yup, this made my desktop, too, only to be bumped off by a sunset shot, I think.
ReplyDeleteBut a couple of months ago, I went back to my all time, Number One favourite --- May 8 and the PDP picnic portrait. I met some of the regular posters face to face, watched them meet each other for the first time in real time, experienced Eric and Michael's hospitality (for Michael definitely co-hosted the event) and it was a highlight of my month in Paris.
That's what makes this site so special, I think - both gorgeous photos and real people who are positive, appreciative, funny and kind.
We're almost at midnight on the West Coast of Canada - but I can't keep my eyes open any longer. G'nite, and here's to another year of amazing photos and fun chats.

Interesting really how much the Seine is Paris in the same way as the Thames is London. Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year.
ReplyDeleteWell, my February trip to LA may have just fallen apart. Instead, I'm thinking of New York. No California sunshine, but Metropolitan Museum of Art, anyone?
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous choice, Eric! It really does look like a painting.
ReplyDeleteHappy theme day! Wishing you health, happiness, peace, prosperity and love in 2009.
A stunning shot, but then so are your other choices. How did you choose?! Happy New Year, Eric!

Eric, a splendid pick in a year of wonderful PDP images. Thank you for being our man on the streets of Paris, capturing these scenes that mean so much.
ReplyDeleteCali, congrats on being the first GF of 2009!
I had a big treat yesterday. I got to meet Michael (who is on holiday here). We took lunch and a photowalk and talked and talked. What a great guy. . .but you all knew that already! ;^) I got to meet with Katie for coffee and fun conversation the week before while I was on holiday in Berkeley. Sad to say I didn't get to see Louis la Veche, but next time, I hope to. You see what a lovely group of friends you've brought together all over the place, Eric? Merci! Wishing you happiness and good health in this new year,
-Kim

ReplyDeleteHello Eric and Happy New Year! Thank you so much for all your effort and positive energy. Cheers from BC!
ReplyDeleteOk, I have not given up on Los Angeles in February. Any suggestions for motels? I need sun and ocean nearby. It would be fun to meet up with LA area PDPeople as well. It's a budget question right now...
ReplyDeleteJeff! LA? Email me at Carrie.12345@yahoo.com (and put something in your heading that lets me know you're not a spammer!) and maybe I can help with hotels etc. How exciting! We beat the pants off of NYC for comfortable February temps - tho bear in mind that it could definitely be rainy here.
ReplyDeleteMerci beaucoup pour cette photo. Je pense que le musee d'orsay est mon petit ami! The photo was my favorite of the year.
ReplyDeleteOh, Eric! As always, an inspiration. Happy New Year indeed!
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely my favorite ;-)))))
ReplyDeleteThank you all so much for your nice words. It's very precious.
ReplyDeleteI've been following your blog for quite some time, but I've never actually commented on any of your amazing photos until now! I think that this is the best photo that has ever been on Paris Daily Photo! Keep up the wonderful work!
ReplyDeleteElle est absolument spectaculaire: superbe couleurs et le brouillard ajoute une touche dramatique.
ReplyDeleteTrès bonne année 2009, Eric! :)
Absolutely beautiful photo. Happy New Year, Eric!
ReplyDeleteI agree, it was probably one of your top 5 photographs this year. I also liked the one with the Eiffel Tower in the background and the Place de la Concorde fountain on the foreground; the icecream cone on the sidewalk; and a couple of others :)
ReplyDeleteEric, this is a classic for sure. When I first saw it, I thought it was a painting!
