And now the floods!

Wednesday, December 29, 2010 Publié par Eric Tenin

I don't know if we offended the gods or anything, but this year's weather really sucks. No only have we broken a cold record (the coldest December since 1969!), not only did we have snow like - almost - never, but on top of that, now the Seine is overflowing! I took this photo yesterday near Notre Dame, where the water even dragged a garbage can out of its normal location. Quite impressive. Even the Bateaux Mouches are currently stopped because there is not enough space under the bridges! The funny part is that I'm leaving today for Chamonix, a ski resort in the Alps. More snow for me!

That's always troublesome, such a lot of water. Not good for the tourists either. Hope you enjoy the snow and water will be lower when you return.

It made me think of the floods in Florence (I was alive then) in the 1960's. Glad to know this just affected the Bateaux Mouches and the garbage can.

I remember the Florence floods, too! There are websites where you can see incredible photos of the Paris floods of 1910. I do hope the water doesn't get that high! It caused a lot of damage. I'm going to go look for more pix of the current inundation.

This gives a new meaning to 'dumpster diving'.

It seems like Paris may have Venice's aqua alta!

The Seine was nearly this flooded when I sailed on the Onacoluthe one year. We just sat at the pier, unable to go under the bridges.

Geez, that seems like a giant pain in the neck.
Hopefully all the water will be gone by the time you get back!

My godmother and I keep commenting on the crazy weather worldwide. We saw the news about flooding in Paris yesterday. When was the last time that happened??

Enjoy Chamonix, Eric! I once spent a week with friends at les Carroz d'Arraches, and it was one of the best weeks of my life.

Your photo is unexpected and informative Eric. I wish you a very good trip to Chamonix. The weather is fine today: perfect blue sky and a sunny snow. It makes feel good after all but I keep thinking to all who are still experiencing bad conditions of weather.
Floods in Florence : I remember in the Italian movie 'nos meilleures années', it was question of these floods. I love this movie.
I too thought of your American visitors during these past few days specially Phx and Alexa after hearing from the snow storm. I hope everything is better now. Phx must be resting herself now after such cold and snowy adventures!
    Stay warm.

Snow in the mountains is much more fun than water in the city! Enjoy your holiday, Eric!

    Great photo.
I just read in the newspaper that this weather is due to global warming, even though it's cold.

Have a nice snowy vacation, Eric.

    Very good, Jeff!
This DOES look like Venice's aqua alta, doesn't it? Well, I'm glad you're going to Chamonix, where at least you can ski ('cause it's too cold to water ski).

Paris looks like parts of Australia too at the moment ~ though sadly not in a way we enjoy! Happy skiing, Eric, especially the "après" section of the programme.

    Lol, Jeff !

Like the shot. And really glad you didn't try it from the usual "Eric Tenin's perspective!" ;)
