Job Hunting!

What it takes to find a job nowadays... The man in this ad is not just another model, but a real unemployed Marketing Manager looking for a job. To find one, he had the idea of renting a couple of billboards AND an exhibition hall (where job fairs are usually held) to greet potential employers... (check this video). Of course he did not pay for all this but got the help of sponsors looking for visibility. And it worked of course: this guy has been all over the news, and more than that, he made it to the home of ParisDailyPhoto!! I don't know if all of this has enabled him to find a position though... Check his website if you understand French.

  2. With your help 100.000 people will see his ad. Today I heard of a guy in Holland whose car was stolen. Police wouldn't help him... :-( He used twitter and within 7 hours he got his car back! Cheers, Peter

  3. Hey, some people have been out of a job for over three years and they are getting creative. It might work. :-)

  5. this reminded me of the woman who bid her forhead as advertising space on e-bay a few years ago. i think she ended up making 10,000. she had to get the wining company's name tattooed on her forehead. i don't remember the whole story - i think she might have gotten hired as well. i guess you gotta do what you gotta do to make it these days - right?

  8. I saw this ad Monday morning, when driving on the périphérique ! But once in my office, I forgot to check his website...
Thanks for the reminder, Eric ;-)

  9. 'More than that, he made it to the home of ParisDailyPhoto!!'--- That's so true!
I saw his ad over the 'périphérique' last week but did not check his website ; now thanks to PDP, I have a whole understanding of his purpose :) I didn't know his name and now I can put a name on his face : Alain Gutton.
Lately there was also Nicolas Catard who did a big buzz in France about Job hunting with his video clip and his song 'je suis un Excellent chef de projet'.
Even at that time, I think I did hear about him thanks to ... Eric Tenin ! The true unique searcher ever ! But I'm thinking of a thing : ... would have it been your face, Eric, on a billboard like the one you chose to post today, I surely would have caused a big car crash on the périphérique ;)

  10. In order to get hired in the USA, one should usually be clean shaven, wear a tie and this man should fix his collar.

Any comments, Michael? You know better than I.

  11. I saw his story on the national news here in the U.S. last night. No telling where he will get offers from. He seems to know marketing!

    Thanks for sharing, Eric!

  13. I thought I read on FB feed yesterday that he had found a job.

That is extremely creative, but I would draw the line somewhere ... like tatooing the name of a company on my forehead!!! That I would *not* do.

(plenty of room on my buttocks, however, in case someone wants to rent some space ;)

  14. @Flore. "The true unique searcher ever ! Yeah I understand... But I can tell you it's not in may plans yet!

@PHX. Michael is in Singapore at the moment, maybe he could tell us how Singaporeans dress when they go job hunting ;-)

@Anonymous. The story was in the US News?!

@Tomate. He found a job? Really? I heard that he had only two meetings, but maybe it was enough.

  15. Tomate said "plenty of room on my buttocks, however, in case someone wants to rent some space ;) ROFL!!
I knew you guys were a little crazy out there in San Francisco, but please don't do this Tomate! ;-)

@PHX - in France it depends on the kind of job you're applying for, but I can tell you that the 3 day unshaven look is quite popular in France at the moment, so nothing surprises me anymore.

@Eric - can't really tell you about Singapore. I'm currently surrounded by young students (ok, young by my standards) in shorts and t-shirts. These "kids" already have jobs with investment banking firms and the like, so guess they can afford to dress however they'd like. Hard to imagine any of them in suits other than swimsuits.
