Paris Marathon 2011

Like every year the Paris Marathon took place today. And like every year PDP was there! Luckily the day was absolutely gorgeous and it was a real pleasure waiting for the runners on the "quais" (river banks). Not surprisingly this 2011 marathon was won by Kenians (Benjamin Kiptoo in 2,06 hours for the men and Priscah Jeptoo in 2,22 hours for the women), but the first French was not very far (Abdellatif Meftah in 2,10  hours). BTW the 6th annual PDP picnic will take place towards the end of may, beginning of June. Can you help me picking up a date by answering the poll in the righ column? Thank you.

  1. This looks great -- as a marathon SHOULD look! Unlike the Los Angeles 2011 marathon of a couple of weeks ago. It was so cold and rainy that several HUNDRED runners (not spectators) were treated for hypothermia! Congratulations on the great photo and on the great weather!!! Bonne semaine. 8-)

  2. What a timely post...I ran my first race today and was just on my way to bed early with an awesome case of jelly legs, but stopped by here first.

It was only 5K but I'm proud...now I want to run some MORE.

    How about you, Eric?

  3. A friend from my job ran the Paris marathon last year, then got stuck in Paris for an extra week (lucky dog!) thanks to the (unpronouncable) Icelandic volcano.
This shot really captures the excitement of the event!

  4. Amazing shot, Eric! Love the three wedges of space/texture. And the people running right toward you!

Once again, I will be attending the picnic virtually this year. Sigh.

  5. All these people running to sign up for the PDP picnic! I'm glad you are having the picnic. Unfortunately, I won't make it this year, as you know. However, I urge everyone to plan for it because it is a fun time even for those who say "I heart rien, I'm Parisian".

I will be in Rome soon, and I think I'll call M. PDP so he can "meet" Signora RomaEveryDay, a great photo blog. I haven't organized a picnic there: yet. But I'm trying...

    Ciao

  8. Kenyan Benjamin Kiptoo won Sunday's 35th of Paris Marathon for the 2011 and not 2010 where he finished fourth.

  9. Ohh cool shot! I was in town for the race when a friend wanted to celebrate his 40th running in it. Loved to see all the athletes giving it their all.

  11. Amazing! I have always thought that a marathon was not for me, but I'm am working towards my first 5K for later this year, and I think someday I might do a half-marathon. I applaud all those who did and hope they had a great time (or at least a great sense of accomplishment!) :)
