The piano player
Hearing music in the street is pretty common in Paris, like in most cities. But it generally comes from bands or guitar players rarely from... (real) piano players! And though, here is what I just photographed at the Cadet Metro station. The interesting part is that it's good marketing ; It works, people were fascinated (there was a big crowd around that you cannot see in the photo) and gave him money. I really wonder how the guy carries his piano around though.

Well, it does have wheels. Maybe that's his bike and he pulls the piano along behind him. Now THAT would be a photo op to rival even this one. It's a great capture, Eric—what kind of music was he playing?
ReplyDeleteHow fascinating! Was he any good? I guess so if people were contributing to his fund.
ReplyDeleteThe piano is on little wheels that couldn't possibly be of much help moving it around. 'Tis a puzzlement!
More Paris fun. I just love it.
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious he came via the Metro.
FUN!
ReplyDeleteHow did he get it there?
Kris
First time I see this! But I confess I loved the idea!
ReplyDeleteWas he playing April in Paris?
ReplyDeleteCatching up on my PDP photos and it looks like spring has really sprung in Paris. Love this "slice of life" photo and I am sure the pianist really knows how to play, unlike the buffoons who masquerade as "street musicians" here in SF!!
ReplyDeletePerhaps the piano is from the Hotel Opera Cadet or a nearby bar or Cafe?!?!?
ReplyDelete...only in Paris...well, maybe NY...that's the beauty of living in a big city...you never know what you gone see...or hear:)
ReplyDeleteHe can carry a tune, but not a piano.
ReplyDeleteHe can move us to tears, but not a piano.
He can lift our spirits, but not a piano.
-but if he were a she,
and pretty she be,
that piano dolly could do all three.
PS I wonder if he collected enough money to buy his holiness on the left a new pair of jeans? :)
Hi, you started me thinking.. I have seen a similar thing in the city in Perth, but for some strange reason I didn't even wonder how he got the piano there..I'm sure I will certainly do so the next time..
ReplyDeleteThere's someone who does this in New York city too!
ReplyDelete@Alexa "what kind of music was he playing?" Easy listening kinda jazz I would say (I'm not an expert!)
ReplyDelete@Lydia "Was he any good? " To me, he was ;-) Yes the piano is on wheels but very heavy.
@Petrea "It's obvious he came via the Metro." LOOOOOOL Yes, of course, why didn't I think of it?!
@Anonymous "Was he playing April in Paris?" Nope! ;-)
@Tonton. Glad to see you bad. I know you've been away for a sad reason. I hope my photos will cheer you up a little... (And we do have buffoons here too, you know ;-)
@Beau gosse. That's a possibility. I did not think of that.
@Martin. Yes NYC too I'm sure, like Maris (below) said.
@Drummond. How do you DO it? You always come up with the appropriate lines. I call that 100% pure talent! And you're definitely showing your age with a PS like " I wonder if he collected enough money to buy his holiness on the left a new pair of jeans? :)"!
@PDP (I mean, PerthDailyPhoto!) Really. So now we know they do this in Paris, NYC and Perth.
I think that it would be interesting to see him cart it up and down the Métro stairs! I imagine that he lives nearby but would still love to see him "pack it up" and roll it home!
ReplyDeleteBises,
G
nice to see the metro is finally free of the construction/roadworks!
ReplyDeleteHow fun!! Lovely.
ReplyDeleteLOLOLOL Petrea and Drummond -- you two made me laugh!
LOL!!! Yes, Eric...I know about those Parisian Buffoons also...Thank you for your kind words...
ReplyDelete@Tonton. Oooops I just reread what I wrote. Needless to say I am not glad to see you "bad" but BACK of course
