Porte Saint Denis

The big arch in the middle of l'Etoile, on top of the Champs Elysées is not the only one in Paris. There are many other arches, like this one I photographed in the 10th arrondissement at the crossing of rue Saint-Denis and Boulevard Bonne-nouvelle. It was built in 1672 in replacement for a medieval gate in the city walls built by Charles V in the 14th century (read the whole story here if you're interested). It's a stunning monument, and the blue/cloudy sky makes it even more beautiful.

  3. Wonderful angle on this shot. I am partial to the lion's head in the center of the arch, tongue and all!

  6. Eric, this and the St. Jacques Tower are two landmarks I 'discovered' in my antique postcards. Both were on my 'must see next time' list and after getting the Tenin Perspective, they're at the top:) As always, thanks so much for starting my day with something positive!

  7. And—as noted— your perspective makes it even more spectacular. :~}
    The 10th is really off my radar, but I'm going to change that next time I'm in Paris.

  8. I was there today, and took a very similar picture. I just sent it to my French teacher (Madame Klingaman) and she replied asking me if I saw parisdailyphoto.com today and I saw this post...J'ai mourrai! MDR! :)

  9. Eric (the other one) : "j'ai mourrai" is not what we would say ;-) Because in 'j'ai mourrai' you are using two different tenses (past and future) which is, as you know, a bit strange with the verb 'mourir' ;). What do you mean : 'je suis mort' ou 'je mourrai' ou encore possible : 'elle m'a tué' ou 'elle me tuera'. In any case, needless to say, you don't need to change anything ; I caught your meaning perfectly ;))
