The 1st good-for-the-planet merry-go-round!

Low consumption bulbs, hybrid cars, windmills... everybody claims to have sustainable development solutions for the planet nowadays. In Paris, we've gone a step further! Now we have an ecologic merry-go-round, one that is powered by solar cells, a small windmills and... human power (that is the power of people - kids? - that pedal while going around!) Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Marcel Campion, invented it - OK, maybe it's a little far fetched, but still ;-) If you want to see it, it's easy, it's right at the bottom of La Tour Eiffel where I took this photo this morning.

  2. FUN! I think this is one sure way to get kids out of the house and also get them a bit of exercise peddling the planet merry-go-round.

  3. Oh, that is fabulous! (I am no longer a kid, but riding the merry-go-round is still one of my favorite things! I even went by myself while pregnant with Joel; I figured it was never too early to start his fun times!!)

  4. Brilliant idea, have fun and get fit at the same time, it's all good. Love the dramatic angle you've taken with this Eric, looks so theatrical!

  7. The hamster on the treadmill comes to mind.
Perhaps specially bred giant hamsters on treadmills could be the answer to our energy problems, although it might be advisable to try it out with giant guinea pigs first.

  8. Love it—merry-go-round as metaphor for how we should be running our planet! Brilliant idea—and amazing angle, Eric.

  10. Drummond, I think they already are trying it out on "guinea pigs"!

Here's another idea: you have to run on the treadmill or pedal the machine to generate the power for whoever is ahead of you in line. Then the next people behind you power your ride. You work, then you ride. A lesson in how civilization functions.
