New parking tickets

Increasing productivity is a concern that has no limits. Even when it comes to parking tickets! Hence these new electronic parking tickets that have been introduced in Paris over the last months. No more papers to fill, the license plate number and the reason why the ticket was given are entered directly into a portable terminal and drivers are noticed via a simple note like this... To pay, you simply need to go online, enter the number that is on the notice and hand out your credit card! Simple, efficient and... very cost effective! According to studies, it reduces the ticketing time by 2!

  1. Oh, how cute! There is a pretty French on it! ;)

Poor guy is going to be in a bad mood, no doubt.

I am of the opinion that Parking tickets enforcers are evil.

  3. Seems a bit harsh to me. French drivers, and in particular, French drivers in and around Paris are normally so courteous, patient and well mannered. One would hardly think it necessary, to have an 'enforcement' agency presence on the streets! One need only consider Place de l'Étoile and the polite consideration demonstrated by 'les motoristes pendant l'heure de pointe" or indeed at any other time to fully appreciate this calm, stoic french psyche! I ask myself "What is your secret?"

Eric, I just voted for you. I hope you win!

  6. Yep, far more 'prunes' given per hour, and also less chance the owner will come up and engage you in a lengthy and unpleasant argument about the fine... or punch you. Vive la France!

  8. This latest use of technology to empty Parisians' pockets more quickly could result in:

    a) A reduction in the number of parking attendants.

    b) An increase in the number of tickets issued.

    or, the horror scenario:

    c) An increase in the number of parking attendants and a corresponding explosion in the number of tickets issued.

I vote for a). I've also voted for you Eric.

  9. Here they wear shirts that say, "Parking Ambassador". Yeah, right. They still give out tickets and we still don't like them. But I have to imagine that they are cheaper here than in Paris! (I do remember that the last time I got a ticket was when I was 9 months pregnant and my car was the ONLY car with a ticket, surrounded by expired meters. ARRGH!)

(Hope you win the Golden Blog, Eric! I voted too!)

  10. Your comments on government efficiency are timely. Here in Minneapolis there is controversy in the papers because our mayor and others are in France (Tours) to visit our "sister" city on the tax payer dime. People are really upset.

  11. So they can, presumably, issue twice as many tickets in the same time.

  12. It was just a matter of time before this became electronic too. At least that's one thing I don't have to worry about. But if I did, I'd be with Tomate on the subject of ticketers. (And you have my vote too!)

  13. Too bad it doesn't result in a smaller fine :)
