Place de la Concorde

Today I left home when it was still dark and I came back home when it was already dark! No chance for a day shot! Which is OK, since the big Ferris wheel is back on the Place de la Concorde and it looks much better at night! Besides, this view too never ceases to amaze me! I'm having another long day at Le Web tomorrow, so I don't have much time to write intelligent stuff in this caption, sorry ;-) I'll catch up on Saturday!

  1. Well Eric me old son, you more than make up for 'not having time to write intelligent stuff' with yet another outstanding photograph. This was my first 'real' glimpse of Paris as I stepped off the tour bus in 1982 and savoured for the first time the delights of the 'Place de la Concorde'. The sense of motion, the texture of the road surface and the ghost like apparition of the ferris wheel combine to make a wonderful picture. Yeah, even the sense of foreboding that one is 'once again' about to be mown down by a head of speeding parisian motorists determined to break the all time city speed record, only helps to create a real sense of what it's really like on the streets of your wonderful city

  2. PS. I am not entirely sure that I get the 'ferris wheel' obsession which seems to have invaded every city in our modern europe! Come on city planners, get the thinking caps on.

  3. Thanks for being so diligent with your posts, even though you are so busy! I love the ferris wheel - I'm sad that I'm never in Paris when they put the wheel up - I'd love to see my favorite city from that perspective!

  5. That's ok, Eric, you do so much for us it would be unfair to expect that you will write intelligent stuff.

Wait. That didn't come out right...

  7. Aww, this is a great shot! Just hope you didn't get on the ground in front of all those cars to take it ;)

Have fun at Le Web! We're hearing bits and pieces every day. Loic LeMeur is starting to post some streams so in a way, we're there too. Say hello to Eric Schmidt and if you can, get him to invite you so you can go take a PDP photos of the new Google location in Paris at rue du Louvre! I saw some photos and videos on G+ yesterday(with Sarkozy answering questions from internautes all over the world!).

  9. I'm not sure if that came out right either, but it was meant as a compliment ;o)

  10. Jeff/Bettina, I think what you were trying to say to Eric was - 'Don't worry about the intelligent stuff, just carry as normal'.
No, what I meant was - 'Don't bother about us, get a life'.
No, what I really meant was - 'We couldn't care less if you're not intelligent'.
No, what I really meant was......

    OK, I'll get my coat.

  13. All kidding aside, this photo captures so many things. The urban intensity of the traffic in Place de la Concorde, the Nubian fountain, the Egyptian obelisk taken by Napoleon, the smaller French obelisk at the entrance to the Tuilleries, the Ferris wheel, and the Madeleine.

  15. LOL, Drummond! Probably what you meant was, "That's okay—we're not that bright either." Or maybe not. We don't require words of wisdom every day, Eric. Besides, this picture says a thousand words, at least. And please don't get run over on our account!

  16. A very exciting photo - maybe it is the feeling of all those vehicles coming at you!
    And the wheel is beautiful.
