Paris in the snow

It had to happen... With the cold weather we're having at the moment, you won't find it surprising to hear that it snowed in Paris. I thought of you and went out this morning around 11 am, took my scooter (yes!) and went up to the Sacré Coeur. The place was full of tourists, but I managed to take this pretty Parisian scene ;-) I hope you'll like it. If not, I'll show you some more, later this week ;-) A special thought to the poor people in Perth (Australia) who suffer from the heat at the moment!

  1. Looks like a light dusting of snow; not like the old days.

Remember this on January 10, 2010 -- I think it's one of your masterpieces. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5S75LIZM8GI/S0jddJ7p-PI/AAAAAAAAIdw/jIOGtTjzzRo/s1600-h/PyramideSnow.jpg

  2. It is a very Parisian scene, you're right, Eric (and you would know!). Makes me want to be there, even in the cold.

I agree, Lois, that's one of Eric's best (and that's saying something).

  3. Eric, that is not snow!
A baker was making a delivery and tripped and the cake fell on the ground and that is the sugar powder from the cake.
I am surprised there are no kids licking it from the ground :)

  4. Love it. Great composition. We were in Paris last Xmas and January and it looks exactly the same. You know how Americans are enamored of Paris. Why doesn't anyone shovel in the eighth and ninth?

  5. Thank you for getting out in the cold to get such a picturesque scene.

  8. Mr. pHX sent me a photo of a half frozen canal St Martin! I thought it was Antarctica! OK, I exaggerate, but I hardly remember complaining of the heat in June anymore.
Your photo restores the romanticism of what the snow can look like in beautiful downtown CDG.

  13. How lovely! A dusting of powdered sugar, as Martin said. (snicker) It is beautiful though, and lovely that you can use a broom to sweep away the unwanted stuff from your doorstep.

  18. Paris is lovely in any weather, but this light dusting of snow really is like the icing on the cake, isn't it? Be careful on your scooter, monsieur!

  19. Fear not the cold my friends
Embrace the heat when winter ends
The streets of paris are paved in gold
Those cobbled stones look very cold
Just brush the snow near Sacre Coeur
This kind of 'shot' is very rare
    Watch your step near Montparnasse
In case you fall and bruise your Ass
The winter's grip is clear to see
Wrap up well and drink hot tea
Soon the spring will bounce right back
Like the former mayor, Jacques Chirac
The Sun King Louis and his men
Will shine on Paris once again

  20. @Lois. Oh yes I remember very well when I took this photo at the Louvre Lois. It was really amazing to see this.

@Martin "A baker was making a delivery and tripped and the cake fell on the ground and that is the sugar powder from the cake. " LOL! Yeah, that's is actually what happened recently to one of our presidential runners a couple of days ago.

@Anonymous " Why doesn't anyone shovel in the eighth and ninth?" You mean arrondissement ? Well they do don't they? (It's the law anyway!)

@Bettina "Thank you for getting out in the cold to get such a picturesque scene." You're welcome, it was cool actually.

@Bernadette, George... "Today it will be +40 degrees over here..." If you expect some sympathy, forget it LOL!

@Monica "Eric, how ´freezing´ do you think it will be in Paris on late March?!" It should be OK. But as always, in Paris, it's impossible to tell...

@PHX-CGD "Mr. pHX sent me a photo of a half frozen canal St Martin! " I know, it's really amazing...

@Lydia "Scooter? Be careful of sliding!" True!

@mmeHauvi "We have a state of heat and flooding at the moment. " I really wish we could trade somme cold ;-)

@Kara. "nothing like Paris here in Australia.." No, but you have Huluru, Koalas, kangaroos, the Sydney opera, The Sydney harbor...

@Roniece "Well I for one was so happy to see 'snow' in Paris! My wish came true! " Yes!!!! I really did not think you would. I'm happy for you Roniece.

  21. How absoutely charming! I love the flip of the sweeper's apron corner. It's almost an updated French Currier and Ives scene! Wish I were there...skating the frozen canal at two...a Montmartre flaneur at six...and reciting Dermo's Doggerel to top off the day. Well done!!

  22. I'm late to the party, but I must say this looks like modern day Utrillo.

  25. Bonjour Eric! Thank you for not forgetting to mention Perth. My sister and I are from Perth and are avid readers of your website! Given that that it is the most isolated city in the world, we were pleasantly surprised that it was mentioned here.

  26. Do you happen to know the name of the restaruant the man is sweeping in front of? It's looks familiar.
    Lovely picture, as always!
