Doing justice to the Palais de la justice!

Curiously enough, I never photographed this beautiful building, called Le Palais de justice (the Justice Palace), which is the "headquarters" of our justice system. It is located on the Ile de la Cité, in the very middle of Paris right near the Conciergerie where Marie-Antoinette was kept prisoner after the French revolution. I went inside this palace only once, to attend "la conference des avocats", a sort of funny fake plea open to the public, staging young lawyers .

  1. Not having to frequent this building is a good thing, despite its beauty! And it sure is beautiful. I love the gate.

  2. So beautiful! I went in the building once because my cousin the lawyer wanted to look around. I tried to convince her to buy one of those French lawyer robes as a souvenir, but she didn't think the Minnesota judges would appreciate the joke.

  3. Strangely enough, I now feel like breaking into a chorus of La Marseillaise.............

  4. And around the corner to the left...the beautiful Sainte-Chapelle!

  5. Shakespeare & Co aside, Ile de la Cité is probably among my favourite hangouts in town.

I have the softest sp♥t of all for Place Dauphine!

Thanks, Eric, for sharing this! You completely make my day.

  6. It looks like Sainte-Chapelle is getting a facelift. The Palais de la Justice was built on the site of King Louis' palace, which was there when he built Sainte-Chapelle. Did anyone ever verify if his relics were genuine? I thought I read somewhere that they were faux.

  7. As much as I love NYC, it does not inspire the poetry that each vista brings in Paris. Paris just dresses for the occasion.

  8. Although I've never been inside, I have visited the Conciergerie. Also enjoyed a glass of wine with friends afterwards in a little bistro on the corner across the street. I remember part of their decor was a huge American Coca Cola poster(-:
    Thanks for the memories
