Paris Plage 2012

Paris Plage is a yearly operation, organized by the Paris town hall (see more in English here), that consists of transforming several parts of the city, and most particularly the Seine embankment, into a "beach". Thus if I had taken this photo during winter for instance, you would have seen concrete and most likely cars instead of this lady having her lunch break in the sun! It's a lot of work for only a month (mid July till mid August), but it seems to be worth it, as it's always a big success. Every year I try to make my "official Paris Plage photo", I guess this year it'll be this one ;-) - Just out of curiosity, have a look at the photos I took the years before, including in 2005, only 3 years after this event was created.

  1. Ahhh sun...we're being blown away by high winds and it's grey and wet..I'll imagine I'm on the Paris Plage instead today I think!

  3. All of your Paris Plage photos have been winners, Eric, including this one. You could do a Paris Plage calendar!

  6. Nice and unsual shot, as always!!
I went there for the fist time a couple of weeks ago. I loved the "mist sprinklers", even if the weather was not as nice as this week. And I had never seen so many "babyfoots" side by side!

On se ment toujours... Est la premiere phrase d'un livre; je ne sais plus lequel!
Soooo Paris plage 2012 ... As beautiful as the previous editions or ... more than them and less than the following ones ?!! Ok ok, I've perhaps read too much the Canard enchainé this afternoon!
They say : 'La liberté de la presse ne s'use que quand on ne s'en sert pas'. Cela aide à voir plus juste ! Ceux qui le veulent en tous cas.

  9. @Ann "we're being blown away by high winds..." Where are you?!

@Gigi "Well, that was fun looking back over the years." Yes, I did it too last evening when I posted my photo that is why I posted the link to the previous posts. 2005 seems so far away now (it is!)

@Keats "Oh! She is reading "mon journal préferé".". Yep, still stand, the only paper that does not suffer the press crisis!

@Marylène "I loved the "mist sprinklers", even if the weather was not as nice as this week" I tried the ones on the other part of Paris Plage, by the Bassin de la Villette, they are fun! The kids LOVE them.

@Carrie ;-) and @Greg... LOL Well I always heard Life's a bitch and then you die, that is why I could not resist completing Drummond's sentence!

  15. Nice shot! I was able to see it this year on a visit to France. If only you could cool off with a dip in the Seine, but with its rather bloody history, it's better to just opt for the showers ;)
