I generally don't post two photos that deal with the same subject twice in a row, but this time I did not resist... These are firemen watching over the marathon runners from a fantastic point of view: their truck ladder! On a more serious note, French firemen have just released a communication campaign to urge people to only call them in case of emergency and not just to rescue their cat or open their door after they forgot their keys inside or any other reasons that can be solved by someone else... (update, look at what digital artist Bill Charlebois did with this photo)

Perched firemen!

Great shot. Love the color of the sky, the buildings, the angle of the ladder.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this photo!! You need to make friends with these guys. Maybe they'll let you climb their ladder next year. So to speak, that is. ;)
ReplyDeleteDitto, ditto! Great photo. It looks like they are getting some cool pix up there, too.
ReplyDeleteFantastic, fantastic photo, Eric! I love it. There's so much to see in it. I keep going back and looking at it again.
ReplyDeleteI'm shocked that people still call the fire department to solve little problems for them in this expensive world.
I have to say more! Were you standing in the middle of the street? You got yourself into the perfect position. I love how you framed the men against the sky, with that beautiful building in the background.
ReplyDeleteThat's an excellent photo!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Petrea—this is a super, super picture, Eric! Definitely calendar-worthy. I can't imagine asking them to let me in my apartment (the one I wish I had, that is). But I have some very fond memories of dancing with the beaux pompiers on the eve of Bastille Day—hope that tradition stands!
ReplyDeleteit's a one of a kind photo....have never really seen a shot like this before...nicely done.......
ReplyDeleteWhat's there left to say ? It's all been said, so I say DITTO X 5.
ReplyDelete"Birds on a Wire" Great photo Eric!
ReplyDeleteDon't call us -- this gives them more time to attend to serious matters. Yep, and that's what they are doing with that time. :)
what a fantastic shot..Eric...
ReplyDeletethey having a wonderful time up there...
near Notre Dame..watching not only the Marathon, but although the world going past...
lool...Kara
My first thought: They have a great view of the sunrise! Then I read your post and found out they just have a great view of everything. Nice photo -- so very Parisian!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo! We recently learned from our French friends that the Firemen are the first people you call if you cat is caught in a tree, or your keys are locked in the car or any of a million minor domestic emergencies. We found this fascinating since years ago ( maybe in the 1950's or 60's) in the U.S. the Fire Department was often called for the same reasons. U.S. firefighters put an end to that sort of assistance quite some time ago. We thought it was delightful and quaint that French firefighters continued that tradition.... Ahlors, sorry to see that this sort of thing has now come to an end in France, but I bet the firefighters aren't!

ReplyDeleteFair point, Lois!!
Lovely photo!!
ReplyDeleteDo people really still call firemen to rescue their treed cats?
Fabulous photo, Eric!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked this photo cause I do to. Wait till you see what Bill Charlebois, a digital artist did with it (I'll show you the link).
ReplyDelete@Nancy "We thought it was delightful and quaint that French firefighters continued that tradition..." yes, everything comes to an end, especially when it costs money!

ReplyDeleteEric, I love this pic and can't really add any more oohing and ahhing to what everyone else has said. But I just want to say: better perched than parched:) Ok,corny, but I couldn't resist. Also add my vote for the calender!
ReplyDeleteLove it.
