Madonna at the Olympia

If you're expecting a call from Madonna tonight, don't count on it, cause she's kinda busy (kinda busy, kinda busy...)! Yes, people, "Ze Madonna" was at the Olympia last evening and, believe me, the place was a real mess. Jokes aside it must have been pretty awesome to see her in such a small theater and not one of these giant stadiums where you need binoculars to see the singer on stage - Am I showing my age?! Er, yeah maybe a little LOL!)

  1. This is pretty funny. I have a photo of the Olympia with Madonna's name on it: in 2008. We had just arrived in Paris and we met my friend Katia (who came to the PDP picnic a couple days later) in front of the Opera. We walked down Boulevard des Capucines to have a drink in a cafe and sure enough, hundreds of people in front of the Olympia, waiting for Ze Madonna to arrive. I was jet lagged, it was a beautiful sunny day, and I'll never forget it.

  2. You've shown this theatre before, haven't you, Eric? How many people does it seat, do you know?

  3. *yawn* No thanks, I'd much rather visit a fromagerie, a patisserie, a boulangerie, or Laduree! :)

  4. In fact, I heard this morning (on France-Inter radio) that last night concert was too short for the audience. Madonna talked for about 15 minutes, sang for 30-45 minutes, and leaved !
The public with a 100€ ticket entry was scandalized...

  5. @Jeff. Interesting, I would have never thought she had already been there.

@Petrea. Number of seats: between 1772 et 1996. See it's really not that big. And yes I have been there several times, I really like it.

    @Christie I understand!

@Julien. Yes, terrible apparently. I heard and read that too. She sang for 48 minutes, did not say good bye, etc. She was even booed. It serves her right, when you're a star you owe your fans a little respect!

  6. Regarding to what Julien and Eric wrote, I fully agree : what a pity for her fans... I would have booed her too.
I heard, on the same radio this morning, that some of Madonna fans said they will no longer follow Madonna but ... Lady Gaga who is much more generous ! :)
I admitt that Madonna at the Olympia should have been soooo nice! How explain it?? Is she used to be rude??...

  8. Madge always seems to draw a crowd and leaves things in a mess! HA :)

  9. What a shame after all the fuss, she went and made a muss. I think your caption probably explains partly why Eric. You used "(kinda busy, kinda busy...)!" and she must have read this and been upset to see you quoted Lady GaGa's lyrics from Telephone. I'm sure Madge was none too pleased!

  10. Thanks for braving that scene, Eric! Those fans are already sloppy—and now they're disgruntled too. In this case, I'm with Christie—I'm headed to Ladurée instead.

  11. Now they people at the concert want their money back! I have to admit I don't blame them, a 45 minute concert for 100 Euros? Especially when some waited all night to get tickets and good seats!

  12. Some even paid more than that up to 200 (not mentioning the black market!). Crazy...

  13. At first I thought the title read Madonna at the Olympics. Talk about an Opening Ceremony!

  14. I guess she was ready for her career to end. Perhaps she's forgotten how fast news travels these days.

  15. I love that! "Madonna At the Olympics". Obviously she wouldn't compete in a marathon. Maybe a 48 meter dash after a 15 minute warm up. Of course, she played at the Super Bowl, so athletics seem to be her genre now.

She's never been a favorite of mine, but she's talented and she's no more egotistical than most pop stars. Sort of an ethereal girl.

  16. Im withChristie Madonna "yawn".

  17. @Jeff. I love the "she's no more egotistical than most pop stars" as if it were a compliment as such!

"Madonna at the Olympics" I love that too - and it would have made a good Olympics photo, which I don't have...

  18. From today's news -

"Madonna was booed when she ended her set at a small Paris concert after just 45 minutes on stage.

There were also cries of "Refund!" when the Queen of Pop wrapped up the show on Thursday.

The concert, billed as an intimate event at Paris' Olympia club, was streamed live on YouTube.

By Friday morning, the channel that showed the event disabled comments and had more than 12,000 dislikes compared with 10,000 likes."

  19. And now a word from her publicist...

"Madonna’s Paris club show was planned as her heartfelt thank-you to France, which she expressed at the start of her show. Despite a grueling concert tour, she desperately wanted to perform for her fans in an intimate setting at the historic Olympia as a means to honor her love for French artists, French cinema and a tribute to France’s long history of welcoming and inspiring artists, authors, painters, poets and minorities from other countries over the years.

The show was not billed as her full MDNA concert and tremendous effort was made to keep the ticket prices reasonable ($100 for 2,000 floor seats) and keep them strictly for her fans.
The show cost Madonna close to a million dollars to produce. She has done a handful of club dates in the past and they were never more than 45 minutes. And by the way, she put on a fabulous show, which was streamed for millions of fans around the world."

  20. In other words, one big wankfest.

  21. Wow. That's too bad she viewed the Olympia as a "club" but I wonder if she's really suited for such small venues. Doesn't she usually perform with a large set of stuff that does special effects, etc. ?

  22. Dang, no "edit button" on this thing! I meant her performances are usually pretty large scale, and involve a lot of special effects and stuff. Maybe she just doesn't have the 1.5 hours of singing in her anymore? 100 Euros isn't a bad price to pay to see an artist you probably won't see in person very soon.
