Old Cadum advertising

On the Grands Boulevards, at the corner of rue Montmartre and Boulevard Montmartre, if you raise your eyes, you will see this ad for Cadum. Cadum is a very old French brand (they were famous for their soap and even more for the baby character that they used to promote it), that every single French person knows. If this ad looks pretty new to you, it's because it has been totally restored  in 1997 for the shooting of a documentary dedicated to the brand. FYI, since the 26th of June,  Cadum now belongs to... L'Oréal!

  3. That kid reminds me of Chucky in the horror movie.

  4. Funny we had Gerber too when I was very little (pronounced Jarrrrbarrrr in French) which was funny because "gerber" in French is a slang word for "to puke"!

  5. Mixing the old with the new is kinda weird - do they still pay for it, I wonder, or has it passed into popular culture and is now considered a 'mural' like some old Banania ad...

  6. The old ads are the best. Even the old TV ones. Companies could save a lot of money and generate a buzz by re-running some classics!

  8. Wow, what a nice surprise to see the ad. I grew up with "Le Savon Cadum". I had not seen them in France nor in Paris during my last visits, Monoprix, Carrefour?
Anyway, thanks for sharing and yes, Nostalgie....

  10. Do any children look like this nowadays?
I remember as a child the slogan for this soap when it was available in the UK: "CADUM FOR MADAM"
The Mad Men had it a lot easier in those days. :-)

  11. Hi Eric, unrelated to the post, I wanted to thank you for the tip about Petit Palais! We did go when it was sunny and my goodness the architecture is amazing! So is the gallery inside and the cute outdoors cafe. We also took your word for Bistrot Vivienne and paid a visit and the salmon was delicious! Merci beaucoup for your blog and I'm hoping next time I visit Paris for more days I will be able to try even more things :)

  12. When this soap was introduced in Spain, the slogan was "France's favorite soap".
I found this magazine ad from the early 60's...

  13. Thanks Sylvia. It WAS France favorite soap at that time!

@Lexie, you're very welcome, I'm glad PDP could help you have a nice time ;-) The most shocking news was that you managed to go when it was SUNNY! Which is pretty rare these days ;-)
