It's not everyday that you can witness the opening of a new theater, and though, last evening I did! It's called le Théâtre Bô Saint Martin (Bo is a play on words with "beau" which means beautiful). It's not the largest one in Paris, but it's a real cute one, all nicely decorated (It used to be a video store before, hence my title!) Most artists who will perform there are stand up comedians, all aiming for fame, like my dear friend Silvia (second from the left, also on Facebook) who did not hesitate giving up everything to pursue her dream: being on stage (I so look up to people who are able to do that!). Now, let the show begin...

Theater killed the video store!

I wish them all the best. Who knows, it could be the start of something big like "Comedy Central" here in the US or "Saturday Night Live". My favorite comedians all started in stand-up. I remember when Goldie Hawn was on the stand-up comedy TV show "The Laugh In".
ReplyDeleteOne of our classic stand-up comedians Phillis Diller recently died. She was a housewife when she started at the Purple Onion club in North Beach, San Francisco. When she was interviewed before her death, she said that maybe because she lived so long was because she laughed a lot. The comedian Bob Hope lived to be a 100 y/o.
Keep smiling and laughing. :-)
As Lois said—and I'll bet your friend Sylvia keeps you laughing! This all looks likes tons of fun --
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of admiration and respect for Silvia who has given up everything that would be considered safe and secure to pursue her dream of being on stage! I wish her the best of luck! :)
ReplyDeleteSilvia looks great. She is, I am sure.
ReplyDeleteI really look up to people with a strong sense of humour and who are able to make others laugh in their life. Life is less boring with witty people, isnt'it?
Though, it seems that people who are funny, sometimes are very dark inside. This seems a bit odd, but it's probably true. I'm not really a funny guy myself, so I can't really know. But I do like to laugh, obviously.
I was once a sort of stand up comedian.
ReplyDeleteAfter 5 minutes the audience would stand up and walk out.
I'd stay for your act Drummond!
Delete@Cn "hough, it seems that people who are funny, sometimes are very dark inside. " True, but I really don't think it's Silvia's case.
ReplyDelete@Drummond LOOOOOL (Which means you COULD BE a stand up comedian!)
Good luck, Silvia! Sounds like a dream come true.
ReplyDeleteLOL, Drummond!

ReplyDeleteAll the world's a stage,
ReplyDeleteAnd all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts...
@aphotoaday "Just to tell you that I'm back!" Welcome back! The portal is down, as you may have noticed, but we're working on it; in the meantime there is group on Facebook.
