Last evening I had dinner with my father and one of my nieces and we went to one of the restaurants I often recommend : le Bistro de la Muette. Once again I had a wonderful evening, once again the food was excellent and once again the service was flawless. I swear this is not advertising in disguise, but just a "cri du coeur" (et de l'estomac!). I had fish tartar, a stunning sole and this tarte fine (thin pie) and its vanilla ice cream (trapped in a sort of caramel lace!). There 7 of these restaurants in Paris and I really recommend visiting one of them if you come here.

That is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYes I agree ! These Bistro are fine. I was used to the Bistro du XVIIè. Comfortable and efficient. I'm sure you all spent a wonderful evening.
ReplyDeleteI will have to add this to my list for next time. That tarte fine looks divine. I wish I could taste it!
ReplyDeleteAhh, you are killing me, Eric,
ReplyDeleteJulia Child once made the spun auger coppola on your dessert. After making your melted sugar, you drip it over a greased bowl that has been turned upside down. Secret out!
Monica, I am shocked! You are cheating on your first love, PARIS!
ReplyDeleteThe entire meal sounds delicious!
ReplyDeleteOh, what a lovely dessert! Sounds like an exquisite meal.
ReplyDeleteBut wait! Eric, you have a family? I am accustomed to thinking of you as if you had sprung fully formed from la Fontaine des Quatre Parties du Monde, les Fontaines de la Concorde, La Fontaine Saint-Michel, ou la Fontaine de l'Observatoire, like Venus from the sea (only much more masculine and with camera in hand, of course).
ReplyDeleteGood food, as much as it is about good company, never failed to elicit a satisfied smirk ;)
ReplyDeleteYUM!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, how lovely! I have always wanted to make that at home, and have come close to the sugar bubble a few times, but never has it turned out so beautifully as this. I'm inspired! :)
ReplyDeleteMonica, maybe your layover can just be a little longer than most, say a day or three? ;)
I came across with your site and really like it...
ReplyDeleteOh this is a good idea for a Friday ! But although Paris is going to be my next destination, it will not be before a year still. I'll save that info.
ReplyDeleteLast yr went to the one on Breteuil.
ReplyDelete@CN "Yes I agree ! These Bistro are fine." Yes There all nice (well I did not try them all, but I also like the one in the 7th at Place de Breteuil, in summer because you can sit outside in a non too noisy environment).
ReplyDelete@Monnica "That tarte fine looks divine." It was!
@Phx2cdg Ha ha you see food, you go out of your den, LOL! No need to disclose any secret recipe though, I WON'T COOK!
@Monica Here is another one who goes out of her den when she sees food! (Even if it's not Maracons). You go to Greece? Excellent, it's good for their economy ;-)
@Tamear "The entire meal sounds delicious!" The sole was to die for, really. And not even frozen, which VERY rare.
@Monica "?! I have to visit other places and countries too!" NO!
@Sasho "But wait! Eric, you have a family?" LOOOOOOL I do, Sasho, I do. A very nice 84 year old father and a bunch of nieces (one was even featured on PDP a long long time ago!)
@Vineeta Yashwi "I came across with your site and really like it..." Thank you Vineeta, I hope you're not spam ;-)
@Arr " I'll save that info." I'm pretty sure they'll still be here in a year time ;-)
At those prices it certainly should both look and taste wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI ever have and never will be able to afford to eat there.
Any recommendations of where a normal person should eat? I'm planning a Paris visit in October, the first for a few years (there are other parts of France, you know.....) All suggestions welcome! thank you!
@v. In fact it's rally not that expensive if you consider everything you have for this price.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't want to spend too much money in Paris restaurants (which is possible), you have to really pay attention to the side orders; like water (they always try to sell you bottled water at an outrageous price), wine of course (same principle), and coffee (very expensive).
So in the end, when you see 20 € for a 2 course meal for example, it looks affordable, but in the end, if you add all the side orders, it's very likely that the bill/check will amount to 40 €.
If you stick to food and only food, you're safe.
If you read French, have a look at this article "the 7 techniques that restaurants use to fluff your bill", it's very true.
My advice is to go to this site, called La Fourchette, where you can have real good deals.
I saw no prices on the "menu" so it must be tres chere! I will check out your suggestion La Fourchette.
ReplyDeleteI know I'd like very much to give these menus a try. I'm waiting for the next occasion to use La Fourchette suggestion. I too love eating out with members of my family. Too rare though.
