Marché Montorgueil

I was early to a dinner party yesterday evening, so I took advantage of my spare time to wander in the rue Montorgueil, a street that was named after a little hill to which it would lead to, called "Le mont orgueilleux" ("the vain hill"). It gave its name to the whole area "we call it "le quartier Montorgueil" which is now a famous pedestrian area where you can find  many trendy cafés and restaurants, open late at night. A definite must see if you come to Paris. They even have a dedicated website (in French only...).

  1. The good thing about the street are all the yummy foodie shops. The bad thing about the street is trying to pronounce the name of it , if you speak English.

  2. I forgot to add that the street, when walking uphill, leads to Frenchie, a foodie hotspot, on rue du Nil.

  3. Oh, Eric, this is lovely - the colors from the street lights reflected onto the stones of the street is just magical.

  4. I love the colors in this photo!

Phx - I tried to get a reservation at Frenchie the last time I was in Paris, and was so sad that we couldn't get one :(. Some day...

  7. During the day as well as during the night, this is an animated street. I always go back when in Paris. You can have a drink, eat a bite or more fancifully, or shop in a grocery and take it back to your room or a park. At one end you find the "Halles", and St-eustache, at the other end, the street streches under the names of "des Petits Carreaux" et "du faubourg Piossonnière", which are also enjoyable, being in the living sections of Paris, just a bit outside the more touristic places. Some of the streets that crosses Montorgeuil will probably take you into a different world of activity, especially toward St-Denis. If you pay attention, ladies still doing "le tapin" at sixty-five, or young men talking lenghtly with a "souteneur" can be seen. City life, as always, in all it's variety.

  8. @PHX "The bad thing about the street is trying to pronounce the name of it" LOOOOOOOL!

@Monnica Frenchie ? What is it? I don't even know it...

@Art Day " If you pay attention, ladies still doing "le tapin" at sixty-five, or young men talking lenghtly with a "souteneur" can be seen." Really?! I thought there was no more prostitution in this area?!

  9. @ Eric Tenin : My last trip goes back four years. Obviously things could have changed. But those people were very discreet. I found out because I sat at an outdoor table, enjoying the weather with a couple of drinks : I had plenty of time for observing.

Si vous habitez Paris, et que vous y retournez, faite-moi un compte rendu. Au pis aller, je devrais y retourner l'an prochain, et je retournerai surement de ce côté.

  11. When we came to visit a few years ago, we stayed right off Rue Montorgueil. Love that area! Especially Stohrer and a few of the restaurants there!
