Place des victoires

I know you're going to say I'm a little obsessed with Place des Victoires, but like I said it several times here, it's probably my favorite square in Paris! I often photographed it at daylight, but this time let me offer you a night view - and without the scaffolding that they removed recently. Reminder: this square was inaugurated in March 1686 and it owes its beauty to a local bill that made it compulsory to build symmetrical buildings around it. And of course, the guy on his horse is... Louis the XIVth. And just FYI, The blue sky is not fake!

  1. It's a fine evening photo. I like the rule of symmetrical buildings.

  2. It's a beautiful square. I walked through there several times on my last trip to Paris, and always stopped to take a photo, I can well understand why you do too.

  4. Beautiful night shot. Lovely, one might say. The Sun King looks good in the night view.

  5. Symmetry in most cases kill the charm by having too much of it. The exception is Place des Victoires. The charm of this square ( which is a circle in fact ) also lies in the proportions of the buildings in relation to the size of the place they encircle, and the more intimate size of the place itself. Lesser traffic also makes a favorable difference. More benches could be welcome, so we could enjoy it longer.

Place des Victoires is one of my favorites, too. And not far from there is another : Place des Petits-Pères.

Your daily pictures make me want to go again, everytime. I miss Paris.
