Can you guess what this is? A new Mc Donald's? A Macarons vending machine? A Morgue? All wrong... this is a brand new metro station! I found it yesterday, while I was coming back from a little gathering with the vacation rentals service ParisSharing community. It's located at Porte de Vincennes, that is in the very east side of Paris, where they recently installed a new tramway - and therefore reshuffled the whole underground public transportation. Pretty cool isn't? A quite a change from the traditional Hector Guimard's Art Nouveau style!

It is very different, but in time I imagine Paris' residents and guests will come to love these entrance signs the way they have loved their predecessors.
ReplyDeleteI like the older style - not so sure about this new one! Doesn't seem like Paris!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I like the old ones personally. (My son just asked, "Is that a hologram or something?") It is intriguing and will be interesting to see if this is "Redesigned Art Nouveau".
ReplyDeleteA pavement level LED sign. Fascinating. So...do I stand on the grid and it lowers me into the Metro? Do I walk into it like Stargate? Is the entrance behind the sign? I'm intrigued. Thanks for the info, I'll now know to be aware of the new signage.
ReplyDeleteI wondered if it was a display for a line of designer clothing, or perfume.
ReplyDeleteNoooooo!!!!! This reminds me of transit style in North America.
ReplyDeleteBTW, is there free WiFi at the stations now, as I read about it few months ago?
Curiously or not, I love your photo, so you make me love this new entrance sign. I don't know why.
ReplyDeleteHave to see it now by myself.
Thank you Eric. I would miss Paris without you :)
@Martin "BTW, is there free WiFi at the stations now, as I read about it few months ago?" Well, not really, I think they have it in a couple of stations, but you have to go through several steps, etc. Not convenient at all.
ReplyDelete@Cn ;-)
Certainly hard to miss this one, but I prefer the hunt for the old style Metro signs. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat is the name of the new stop? I will have to get a new Metro map now to decorate my wall.
ReplyDelete@PHX. It's not a new stop actually, it existed before: Porte de Vincennes, near Nation.
ReplyDeleteI'd say it's easy to spot, but it looks to be almost at ground level—or maybe it's really big? I just hope they never try to get replace the few Art Nouveau signs that still exist (Cité, Abbesses, etc.) with this.
