The new Printemps

For once we had a little bit of blue sky today in Paris and I did not resist catching it on "film"! I was at Le Printemps area (one of the main Paris department stores) when I took it and as you can see there is scaffolding everywhere. Why? Well because the new owners (the Rinascente group and the Deutsche Bank) who bought it in 2006  have decided to turn the place into a high-end store and  to do so has decided to give it a little face lift - for a slight investment of 30 million Euros (of which 7 only for the scaffolding)! Let's hope it'll be worth it... No matter what, the facade of the building, which is protected, will still remain the same of course, which is good news...

  1. Any mention of the completion date? I'll miss seeing their Louis Vuitton windows on the next visit to Paris - always very striking!

  2. I have some photos of the screen over the scaffolding, which is printed to look like the building it is covering. I love that. I've seen a few of those in Paris and one in Florence, Italy.

  3. Part of me is sad that it is turning into a high-end store, and the other part of me will still want to go there to check it out, just for the history of the place! (Finding out that my favorite souvenirs to shop for are unusual ingredients, so fun to try! Bought wasabi and caviar today. Not for use together, but should be an interesting week! LOL)

  5. It will be interesting to see what kind of improvements you can get for 30 million euros! Assuming they ever finish, of course. :~} Glad to see some sun for you.

  6. Great "look up" view. I am always amazed at what people are able to photograph with their cameras just by looking up! Great shot! ~

  7. @Sandy "Any mention of the completion date?" Well it should be finished already, but you know how it works...

    @Jeff "I have some photos of the screen over the scaffolding, which is printed to look like the building it is covering." Yes, it's pretty clever.

    @Christie "Part of me is sad that it is turning into a high-end store, and the other part of me will still want to go there to check it out, just for the history of the place!" They say they have to fight with high end Asian stores...

    @tonton ""High Priced Store?"....as if it wasn't already?! I know...

    @Alexa "It will be interesting to see what kind of improvements you can get for 30 million euros! Assuming they ever finish, of course." Yes, I'm eager to see that too!

    @Kristie Merci ;-)
