Those who are in Paris at the moment will know right away that I did not take this photo today! Why? Because we haven't seen this kind of blue sky in a very long time in Paris! I actually took it last July and since I was too busy to take a photo today, I thought this one was a nice replacement. The little man in the center, on his horse, is Henri IV (the 4th), a French king that reigned between 1589 till 1610, when he was murdered. He also changed 6 times religion... And the square is the one of Le Pont Neuf, at the tip of the Ile de la Cité

Wow! That is just a spectacular photo. I love it.
ReplyDeleteIs there a wine bar immediately behind where you were standing to take this picture? (There was about 30 years ago ;-)
ReplyDeleteI looked at this on Google Maps, to get an idea of its placement on the Ile. Their picture is full of cars! It's much more beautiful without them.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo of twilight glow.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be Place Dauphine behind you? This is a great spot, worth visiting on a walk. But what is the brilliantly lit construction site on the left?
ReplyDelete@ Jeff : Yes, it's the view towards Square du vert Galant with the Place de la Dauphine in his back, @ Bigfish : were the wine bar right at the corner still exists : http://haukef.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/rue_dsc3244.jpg
ReplyDeleteThe lit up construction site covers the building of La Monnaie de Paris.
Merci Hauke!
ReplyDeleteYes the The lit up construction site covers the building of La Monnaie de Paris which is currently being redone (and now has and advertisement for a watch brand that a certain James Bond is supposed to have on his wrist!)
He changed 6 times religion???
ReplyDeleteI know he became Catholic to enter in Paris (and said the famous "Paris vaut bien une messe" !!)
But 6 times... wow! I need to read again more about his life!
Nice wide angle.
ReplyDeleteDown the stairs, behind the Henri IV monument, is indeed the Square du Vert Galant : a great place for anyone who do wants to take a little break from walking, and enjoy an incredibly beautiful and intimate view of the city, almost at the Seine level.
Nice shot, nice spot.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't help noticing the bicycle symbol painted on the cobble stones in front of the statue indicating a bike lane. I bike a lot and appreciate lanes set aside for bikes.
Wonder if they will ever make a statue of some famous person on a bicycle! LOL!
@Thib. "He changed 6 times religion???" Well, that is what I read in Wikipedia. Not that it is Parole d'Evangile... ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful. Twilight in Paris. I wonder if this is the l'heure bleue that is so fabled? Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteSorry you had to "resurrect" good weather, Eric. Walk across the bridge and look to the right to see the site of PDP picnics past (and maybe future?), right?
ReplyDeleteNice colors.
ReplyDelete@Alexa "walk across the bridge and look to the right to see the site of PDP picnics past (and maybe future?), right? Right!
