Believe it or not, I only discovered Amélie's café (that is le café des 2 moulins, where part of the French movie Amélie was shot) a couple of days ago. It's located at rue Lepic, a typical Paris street, near Montmartre. The setting did not look familiar at all (well from what I could remember, because the movie is already 12 years old!), but I did a little research and found out that the owner who bought it in 2002 totally reshuffled the place. Cool place though. And for those of you who have no idea of what Amélie is, here you go!
How nice to see "Amelie" again. I re-watched "a very long engagement" few weeks ago and its "behind the scene". Jean-Pierre Jeunet is very talented. I hope he will show us more of Paris very soon in his latest movie.
ReplyDeleteNice atmospheric shot here - difficult not just to have it looking touristy when there is Amélie plastered all over the place - that's what I find anyway, same for the grocery store a bit further up the hill...

Eric - you found it!!!! We had a conversation some months ago and I had mentioned this cafe and you weren't aware of it - glad you were there - it's kind of a crazy place and usually very busy but it has a certain vibe in the air - maybe I like it because I liked the movie so well!

ReplyDeleteI would never have seen the movie except for a former belle ami who brought it over one night. A pretty little love story. Definitely worth the love that so many people have for it.

This brings to mind The Empire Hotel in Vertigo (a real place, called the York Hotel), and as of January 2009 the "Hotel Vertigo" at 940 Sutter Street, San Francisco. Vertigo was shot on location and Judy's (Kim Novak's) room was in the hotel. The owners reshuffled the hotel and it looks nothing what you see in the film Vertigo.
